The 26 April 2014 episode of Comedy Nights with Kapil was had several of the elements of the usual fare we see dished up on the show – Raju, Bua and more of the usual suspects but this one was also different in a lot of ways: it featured not our usual Bollywood biggies and thingies, but some of our much loved sports personalities – Sunil Gavaskar and Vireder Sehwag. Though we saw rather less of Kapil Sharma’s usual garrulousness (can we just call it bak-bak?) there are several reasons why you ought not to have missed this episode of the show:
1. It featured Sunil Gavaskar & Virendra Sehwag
It was a funny, relaxed and entertaining Sunil Gavaskar that we saw, appearing in a rather natty lemon shirt. He kidded around, imitated other cricketers, and told funny anecdotes and was generally engaging. It became clear that he was rather less comfortable in Hindi than he is in is usually tony English, but he was good fun nevertheless. Virender Sehwag was composed and self possessed and he also had some interesting anecdotes and insights to share.
2. Sidhu was far more bearable
Perhaps it was the presence of his fellow cricketers that toned him down a bit – we did have to tolerate the inscrutable Sidhuisms, and the indecipherable shayari and did not have to tolerate as much of that booming great laugh. We saw Sidhu make a few candid confessions of his own – most particularly his transition from tongue tied to verbal diarrhea.
3. Kapil was not insulting his wife for a change
This is such a relief to so many of us who find Kapil’s constant wife baiting annoying and offensive. But then this possibly had to do with the fact that Manju, his ‘wife’ on the show (played by the charming Sumona Chakravarti) wasn’t part of the episode at all.
4. Bua got a cricket lesson from both Gavaskar and Sehwag
The irrepressible Bua appeared dressed up like a teacher as soon as it was heard that Virender Sehwag runs a school and cricket academy. She then proceeded to take cricket lessons from both the cricket legends present for the show.
5. We got to see a role reversal
For a change we saw Sidhu kicking off the show and also saw him in Kapil Sharma’s usual seat on the stage. On the other hand we saw Kapil Sharma seated on the throne for a while. The role reversal was quite refreshing.
6. We saw Gavaskar do a mean jig
The inevitable audience member wanting to dance with the stars was present here as well. This guy wanted to do a victory dance with his cricket idols and we quite enthralled to see Gavaskar and Sehwag also break into dance along with the guest on Havan Kund Maston ka Jhund. Sidhu claimed that he had no idea about Gavaskar’s dancing abilities (Gavaskar on the other hand ably imitated Sidhu’s walk and dancing style).
7. We saw Sidhu and Gavaskar bow to Sehwag
Sehwag narrated the episode of his triple century against the Pakistanis and his daredevil six to reach the momentous 300 mark. We saw the rare sight of both Gavaskar and Sidhu doing that special bow with both hands in the air for Sehwag and his intrepidness.
And as always, we also have one full past episode of the show for you here – this one features Subhash Ghai and Mithun Chakraborty – enjoy!
