Now a days, every time Aamir Khan does something, the Bollywood actor is in trouble. Then whether it is talking about homosexuality on his TV show or showing his disapproval towards the dhongi babas in his films, Aamir has faced the wrath both from the people as well as the court.
While, everything was going smoothly for the actor from quite some days now, he is back in the limelight for all the wrong reasons, yet again. This time not for hurting sentiments for any particular community or the aam aadmi in general, but,
For using “Satyamev Jayate” as the title of his TV Show
The notice issued to him by an activist is in regard with his popular TV show ‘Satyamev Jayate’ which is jointly produced by him. According to the activist, Aamir Khan has used the national emblem as the title of his TV programme. This is not permissible as he has not taken any consent from the Central government.
The notice has been sent by advocate Manoj Singh on behalf of his client, activist Manoranjan Roy. The legal document demands that the makers of the TV show supply a copy of the Central government’s permission. In case, Team Aamir Khan fails to do so, the advocate will initiate legal proceedings against them as per the peremptory instructions given by his client Manoranjan Roy.
Aamir is not the only one who has received this notice. His wife Kiran Rao (co-producer) and Satyajit Bhatkal, the director of the TV show are also the recipients of the notice sent by advocate Manoj Singh.
What the Notice States –
The title ‘Satyamev Jayate’ is a part of the State Emblem which cannot be used without permission as per State Emblem of India (Prohibition of Improper Use) Act 2009, it says. No authority has the right to register or grant patent which contains the State Emblem or its part, the notice says, adding that “it cannot be used to get monetary benefit or for the purpose of advertisement. How Can Aamir Clearly Get Out From This Soup?
Satyameva Jayate meaning “Truth Alone Triumphs” is a mantra taken from the Mundaka Upanishad, an ancient Indian scripture. The way it is graphically presented in the logo of the serial is drastically different from what it is used in the scripture. Perhaps, Aamir Khan and his team can rightly claim that the title has been taken from Mundaka Upanishad.
What’s more that Indian government has no copyrights over the mantra as they themselves have used the logo from the scripture which was highly popularized as a national lexicon only in 1918 by President Madan Mohan Malviya when he became the Congress President for the second time.
Past Legal Troubles
This is not the first time Aamir is in legal trouble for Satyamev Jayate. Earlier, in November 2014, Aamir Khan received a legal notice from advocate Mandeep Kaur for promoting homosexuality on his show – Satyamev Jayate. Here again, the advocate had alleged that the October 19 episode of Satyamev Jayate was in violation of the Supreme Court order on homosexuality.
The advocate alleged that Aamir Khan in his show Satyamev Jayate was promoting Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code in favor of homosexuals against the law of the land – which was a criminal offence committed by him on national television.
While, Aamir Khan has not come out with his explanation on using the title, we wonder what’s in store for the perfectionist who has been irking lots of people these days.
