So, what did Aishwarya Rai Bachchan do to get a Legal Notice?

Well, Mrs. Bachchan had recently signed Omung Kumar’s much hyped movie based on the real life of Sarabjit Singh. Singh is the same person who was convicted by a Pakistan court for spying and terrorism. An Indian national Sarabjit was arrested for a series of bomb attacks in Faislabad and Lahore that killed 14 bystanders in the year 1990.  Sarabjit, however claimed that he was a farmer and had strayed into Pakistan from his village located on the border, three months after the bombings.According to some unconfirmed Indian sources, Sarabjit was a spy for the Indian  intelligence agency RAW and had been working undercover in Pakistan.

After a long trial in the Lahore Court and then at the Supreme Court, Sarabjit was sentenced to death in the year 1991. However, his death sentence was repeatedly postponed by the Pakistan Government. He remained in prison until April 2013 where he was brutally attacked by some fellow inmates. He was taken to Lahore’s Jinnah Hospital but the injuries were so brutal that he died after 6 days.

Now, the Devdas actress was supposed to play the role of Daljit Kaur, Sarabjit’s sister who didn’t lose hope and kept on trying to release her brother from the Pakistani jail. She tried hard to get him justice all the way from 1991 to 2013. Sarabjit was more like a son to her and her effort to release Sarabjit from the Pakistani jail was no less than a struggle.

However, the twist in the tale is that there is another woman named Baljinder Singh, who now claims to be Sarabjit’s real sister, and she is the one who has sent a legal notice to both, the actress and director of the film and has even threatened to move to the court.

So, why did Baljinder send a Legal notice?

Well, Baljinder fears that the film based on Sarabjit will portray her brother in a negative light, She told The Times of India:

“I am not against a movie on the life of my brother, he died for this country. All I want is that his real story be shown to people and not what is being portrayed.”

Who is Srabjit’s Real Sister – Baljinder or Dalbir?

According to Baljinder, Sarabjit was the third eldest of 10 siblings, and Dalbir Kaur is not their sister. She said Dalbir knew Sarabjit only from 1989 and added, “Dalbir Kaur assured us she had right links and would struggle for the release of Sarabjit on some conditions. We trusted her and let her pursue the matter, only to be pushed out of the picture.”

What is Dalbir Kaur’s opinion?

When Dalbir Kaur was asked about Baljinder, she ignored the question, saying that “the world knows who has done what for Sarabjit.” On Baljinder’s allegations that she is not Sarabjit’s sister, Dalbir said she has nothing to prove other than doing for a DNA Test.

The director had approached Dalbir Kaur to narrate the tale for his film. However, it looks like the film has to go several tribulations before it tells us the real pain of Sarabjit Singh. Interestingly, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was not the original choice for the film, the role passed on to her from Priyanka Chopra – Kangana Ranaut – Deepika Padukone.
