Before Delhi elections, Shrimati Kiran Bedi Ji had emphatically expressed her opinion about the most beautiful face upon earth. And…and the lucky winner was – our beloved Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji. Today, when the mother of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal applied the Teeka at his forehead before he stepped out for Ramlila Maidan, Arvind might have been the most beautiful face in Delhi, at least…. for his mother and many Delhi Wallas.
However, I’m exhausted of politics as though a winner also I’m by proxy. With the crowning of Arvind, I believe, my write-ups were not all gone down through the drains. But, for this time, let us discuss the dearest subject – BEAUTY and brains in its holistic embodiment.
A friend on mail has sent me a beautiful picture of Cindy this morning, a face I admired when it was an age to admire with fervor of cracking muscles. That took me to the world of Crawfords. It is an strange coincidence that most of the famous Crawfords of the world have had something to do with Films or Journalism. Anne Crawford – famous actor, Johnny Crawford – American actor – singer and Christina Crawford – Famous writer – actor.
To begin with – Candice Crawford is known beauty with brain. Unfortunately, she could never make it to the top. She competed in the ‘Miss Texas Teen USA’ 2003 and 2005 pageants, placing third runner-up in both competitions. She had competed in the Miss Missouri USA 2007 pageant in 2006 and placed first runner-up. She again competed the following year and won the 2008 title and the Special Achievement recognition in the Swimsuit category.
She took part in the Miss USA 2008 pageant held in April 2008, where she finished at 6th place. She had also worked as sport journalist and worked for KDAF. She is known for her challenging job as reporter for Nightlife Hot Spots in Dallas-Fort Worth. Candice Crawford also hosted the Dallas Cowboys’ weekend sports show, Special Edition.
But I had a close encounter with the name ‘Crawford’ as CRAFUT MARKET when a carpenter friend of mine took me first time to ‘Crawford Market’ in Bombay that is now Mumbai. It is one of the most famous markets of South Mumbai. The building of market was completed in 1869. It was donated to the city by famous Parsi philanthropist Cowasji Jehangir. It was named after Arthur Crawford, the first Municipal Commissioner of Bombay.
The market was most popular for wholesale fruit, vegetable and poultry. Pets like dogs, cats, exotic pigeons and varieties of birds were easily available. Endangered varieties of species were also available if someone was willing to strike the right bargains. Imported items of cosmetics, household and gift items were available. It was renamed after social reformer ‘Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Mandi.’ During my long stay in Mumbai, I’ve never heard anyone calling it by the new name. In 1882, the building was the first in India to be lit up by electricity.
I’d developed the natural affinity and deep likeness for the market and managed to get a PG accommodation in a lane facing the market. There was a hotel that used to cater 12 different varieties of lamb meat, each with a different body part and different taste. Early in the morning, the Customers would leave their tiffins, pots and chattels in the queue if they were to go for morning prayers. The aroma of cooking was moth watering. The joint was known as ‘Barah Handi Ka Salan.’ During Ramadan the catering establishment would remain open till morning Sahari Food before prayers. I don’t know if it is still there.
The Crawford I’d in mind today for this article is the Supermodel Cindy Crawford. She has appeared for a photo shoot in Marie Claire US without any make-up. She has boldly flaunted all the ‘flaws’ of her body that are inflicted by age and childbirth. Her images have not been re-touched.

Cindy is 48 now. She is proud of weather-beaten stomach, thighs and chest. Her images are a bold statement from someone, acclaimed as one of the most beauty body upon earth. It is also a caveat and eye opener as well for the crazy beauty connoisseurs to realize how and what models and celebrities look like without airbrushing.
Crawford said that she tries to be a good role model for her daughter by accepting herself. “I was never one of the skinny skinny girls who could eat whatever they wanted, so I certainly exercise and try to eat right. But at the same time, I try to be a good role model for my daughter in terms of just accepting myself, not saying ‘Does this make me look fat?‘ or ‘I can’t eat that’ or ‘I’m on a diet.’ I just trying to lead by example.
Model. Born Cynthia Ann Crawford, Cindy Crawford is America’s most famous and celebrated fashion model in the world. She found initial fame through her physical appearance, the brown-haired, brown-eyes. Her widespread appeal laid in her looks that appealed to both men and women. Her superb body was a real classic with 34B-24-35 measurements. She distinguished herself through her intellectual attributes. She gave interviews where she laid bare her middle-class childhood fears, aspirations and traumas. She discussed about her parents’ divorce, and the trauma of her brother’s death from leukemia. She was simply real, common, human and approachable.
We can learn a lot from others, may be from everyone, on different subjects, even if they are Rakhi Sawant, Maliks Sherawat, Gauhar Khan or Cindy Crawford.
