Most Indians have someone in their family or friend circle that has either survived or succumbed to the killer disease. So individuals and companies are doing their bit – using either their celebrity status or as and by way of their corporate social responsibility – to see that more information about the disease is disseminated and more people are aware of the importance of screening and early detection.

  5. Celebs such as Milind Soman and Gul Panag also threw their weight behind the Pinkathon in Delhi, the idea behind the event being to promote a healthier, more active lifestyle, which is known to lower risk of breast cancer.

In another unique bid for increasing awareness, a Delhi girl decided to open up her bathrobe to passersby on the road.   7. Free rides in pink autos, is another unique attempt to support breast cancer awareness. Those who got into the pink autos got more than a free ride – they got a dose on cancer awareness as well. the auto drivers were dressed in pink tees, and those who got a ride also got an awareness bag, badge, t shirt and discount coupon.
  8. So clearly citizens and netizens are doing their bit to spread the word – in fun, innovative and sometimes eye catching ways. What is the Union Health Ministry and Mr. doing? Well we know that Mr. Harsh Vardhan gave a speech in Trivandrum, saying that awareness is very important. He apparently thinks this is more important than building cancer institutes. He took the opportunity to congratulate the state authorities for drastically reducing the availability of liquor in Kerala. The health minister was “impressed beyond words” at this “bold decision”.
