Comedy Nights With Kapil – The Review

A wise man once said,”Making people laugh is the toughest job in show business.”

I guess that wise man didn’t meet Kapil Sharma, the 32 year old stand-up comedian and actor from Amritsar is now one of the biggest faces on Indian Television when it comes to comedy.

Aspired to be a singer, Kapil never thought about himself as a ‘Funny Man’ but destiny plays its own tricks; coaxing of his friends and an run of a mill opportunity in the form of The Great Indian Laughter Challenge Season 3; Kapil defeated Amanullah Khan in the finals to become the winner.

8 years since then, Kapil has moved way ahead of his contemporaries and not only managed to create a niche for himself as not only a stand up comedian but an entertainer, a singer and a wonderful anchor with shows like Comedy Circus ke Ajoobe and Jhalak Dikhlaja Season 6 and more.

The thing that stands out in his performances is his ability to make a simple line sound funny. A sense of spontaneity with a sheer natural flair of comic timing you have India’s Funny Man- Kapil Sharma.

Comedy Nights with Kapil turns a new leaf for the actor; the responsibility of not only making the audiences laugh but also the channel producers is on him – after 12 years of theatre for free he turns producer with this one.

With many hats on with this one; Kapil doesnt disappoint with this one too. The writing is crisp; the dialogue writers deserve kudos for their work, it doesnt fall flat at any moment of the act.

Special mention to Naseem Vicky who plays the annoying servant, with the talent of the stature of Kapil its difficult to match up, but he doesn’t miss a beat with this one; also steals the thunder of the latter at times, I hope to see more of him on television.

Ali Asgar and  Upasana Singh are veterans in the genre of comedy; and they prove why are they so successful and sought out actors for comedy. Sumona Chakravarti is the surprise package of the lot, she brings something unique to the table each time she arrives and leaves wanting for more. Navjyot Singh Sidhu is very irritating at times and unbearable as well, the only drawback I can see, Sunil Grover acts as a cherry to this beautiful cake, his performances are short but takes the entire act several notches higher.

The best thing about the show is that its not a one man show, the name may suggest Comedy Nights with Kapil but you would enjoy another character more as you would see.The interplay of characters too has been kept very smooth. they don’t overstay their welcome at any point of time. The interaction with the audience too is funny and entertaining

The Chat show concept is another part of the whole show and the interaction of the characters and Kapil with these stars is a treat to the ears and pain to the stomach laughing. Its subtle and effective humor and brilliant artists make this show a must watch on Colors, and its high TRP’s reflect the same.
