In recent times Bollywood has climbed on to and tenaciously clung to the sequel bandwagon so that we now have a plethora of successful movie franchises churning out one after another spectacular film series. The Dhoom films – Dhoom, followed by Dhoom 2 and now Dhoom 3 are a case in point. Dhoom 3 is slated for a Christmas release this year (by all accounts Aamir Khan’s favourite time of year for a movie release), but already it is grabbing eyeballs and creating anticipation among viewers and trade pundits alike.
The Dhoom series has a lot going for it – the glitzy celluloid template offering charming, wildly attractive crooks, glamorous girls, the plodding cop looking to give the baddies their comeuppance, rocking great music, fantastic locales, thrills, stunts, special effects and more. The first two films featured Abhishek Bachchan as the cop out to nab the thieves played by John Abraham in the first film and Hritik Roshan in the second.
Dhoom 3 will still have Abhishek Bachchan as ACP Jai Dixit and Uday Chopra will continue to play his role of Ali. But this time, it’s going to be something of a cinematic coup that the most elusive of Khans, Aamir Khan will play the crook. Where we saw Esha Deol and Rimi Sen in part one, we saw Aishwarya Rai possibly in her sexiest ever avatar and Bipasha Basu featured in part two. Now Dhoom 3 will feature Katrina Kaif.

The tantalizing movie poster features nothing but the skyline of a city, some turbulent clouds, helicopters and a muscular, well-defined male back and sinewy arms – the poster hides far more than it reveals. But what it does is, it lends credence to the reports about Aamir Khan’s special fitness regimen to prepare for this role.
Aamir Khan will be seen as the villain Jordan in this film. He reportedly learnt the French technique of parkour (holistic training discipline that started out as a military obstacle course) and also took lessons in ballet and followed a very strict diet to get the ripped look that he sports in the film.
Female lead Katrina Kaif also followed a strict diet to get into shape for Dhoom 3 – she also underwet training in Parkour, did some hang gliding and practiced martial arts in preparation for the film. Even Abhishek supposedly lost 9 kilos for the film. According to some data bases, Bipasha Basu will once again feature, this time as Lenny, a psycho gang member. Australian actress Tabrett Bethel , Jackie Shroff and Diana Penty will also feature in the film.
There were reports initially that Dhoom 3 was to have been a 3D film however there is nothing to suggest that this is going to be so. Aamir Khan had also expressed his doubts about this possibility since making a 3 D film requires a high degree of technical expertise.
Dhoom 3 Trailer
The makers of Dhoom 3 are holding their cards very close to their chest – little is known about the film, its story or the characters. All that we currently have to go by is this teaser trailer that tells us the movie in set in Chicago in 2013 and that this year will end with “Dhoom”. An American accented voice over tells us that a hunt is on for a fugitive biker.
All other videos that claim to be the trailer of the movie are a sequence of scenes from previous movies or a montage of stills from the films. Much more will be revealed about Dhoom 3 – made with an estimated budget of a whopping Rs 150 crores – in days to come – as the makers and their marketing team dole out teasing little hints and glimpses into what’s in store for us come Christmas 2013.
