From an unknown face in the world of music videos to the most popular face on Television screen, Drashti Dhami’s career has been as interesting as her role in Color’s Madhubala – Ek Ishq Ek Junnon. Once just a girl next door, Drashti is now captivating millions of heart by her power packed performance as Madhu. What’s more, the actress besides winning hearts is now even bagging all the awards, recent being the best actress award of the Star Guild Award hosted by none other than our Bollywood Ka Tiger, Salman the Dabangg Khan.
So, what was her journey like?
The Gujju girl from Borivali, oh yes she comes from a conservative Gujarati family. Although she did her graduation in Sociology from Vile Parle’s Mithibai College, she started her career as a dancing girl in music videos. Aha, those days the item girls in the music videos were famous, weren’t they? While we concentrated on the Katta Laga girl and Chadti Jawani models, we certainly missed the girl in Harry Anand’s music video – “Saiyaan Dil Mai Aana Re”. Yes, the girl shaking her legas was none other than the pretty Drashti Dhami. Her other music videos include the remix of “Humko Aajkal Hai Intezar” and a Punjabi video – Nachle.
Being a model, she was also seen in many of the television Ads for various products like Colgate (there she was seen along with Saif Ali Khan), VIP, Vasan Eye Care and Amul. However, she only came into limelight in the year 2007 with her role as Dr Muskaan in Star One’s Dill Mill Gaye. Then came another serial – Geet Huyi Sabse Parayi in which she was seen opposite of the New Ram – Gurmeet Choudhury. The two even won the award of Best Jodi in the 2011 Gold Awards. Although, she became a popular face of television there was still something missing. However, post her role as Madhubala in Color’s Madhubala- Ek Junoon, the missing factor astonished as has became one of the sensations of the Television Industry.
The Family Chakkar
Coming from a Gujju conservative family, Drashti had to seek permission from 10 different people when she got offer for a music video. How they said ‘yes’ is still a mystery to me but no wonder their support has made her a star today. Born in 1985, Drashti still lives with her parents, brother and sister-in-law in Andheri East. Remember Abha of Yahaan Mai Ghar Ghar Kheli? Well she is Drashti’s sister-in-law Suhasi Dhami. Suhasi was again seen shaking her legs with her hubby and Drashti’s bro Jaysheel Dhami in Nach Baliye 5.
Dancing: One of her other traits
Drashti was also a dance instructor prior to her stints in the Television industry and so we find she is quite comfortable in the Bollywood style of dancing. While participating in ‘Nachle Ve with Saroj Khan’ in 2011, the girl after her amazing performance in the first round of Jalebi Bai went straight into the semi finals. Recently she was even declared the winner of Jhalak Dikhlaja 6, a dancing reality show of celebrities. She defeated a very good dancer Lorren Gottlieb in order to get her hold at the winning booty.
Is Drashti Dating Anyone?
Well, some of my gossip mongers who are quite up to date with all the television gup-shups reported that she was dating an NRI businessman Neeraj Khemka. They were even going to tie the knot but things went wrong at the last moment. The sources maintain they are very much still together and if they are to be believed, she might marry Neeraj on February 22nd this year.
Don’t be surprise when I tell you that…
Drashti was even a Brand Ambassador of “Save Our Planet” initiated by Hindustan Works to support their cause “Canvironment Week” back in 2011. In the year 2012, Drashti was seen in the list of Eastern Eye’s Most Sexiest Asian Woman. Surprisingly, she won herself the 12th spot in the list.
It is not so famous news, but yes, she was offered a role in Rohit Shetty’s Singham 2. However, the model turned actress refused the offer due to time constraints. Ah, busy girl you see!
An all rounder, Drashti has been giving us some really good show from the past few years. I only hope, she prospers more and make it big in Bollywood too. Well, you never know, if tomorrow somebody comes with an important role for her from the tinsel town…
