This is the film that all Hindi movie buffs are going to identify with – I found myself really enjoying the trailer of Filmistaan today – a Hindi movie slated for release in June 2014. Though the trailer has only just released, curiously, the film itself was released in 2012 at the Busan International Film Festival and also screened at the International Film Festival of Kerala and other places. It has also won several awards such as Special Jury mention, the Silver Crow Pheasant Award for Best Debut Film, Best Feature (Showcase) film and so on.

Filmistaan Story, Plot, Poster
The story is that of film buff and would be actor Sunny who arrives in Rajasthan to shoot a documentary film. Since he is with an American film crew he is mistaken for an American himself and is kidnapped by an inept Pakistani terrorist. The place where he is held captive happens to belong to a Pakistani who deals in pirated Bollywood movies. So we have two film buffs bond in the most unlikely circumstances.
The film promises many genuine funny moments; there are popular film references that any Indian will recognise and appreciate. Then there is that moment in the in the trailer when the guys are talking cricket and Sunny says Tendulkar is the best and the Pakistani says Afridi is the best – our man says something like OK let’s not overdo it; let’s get real. That cracked me up.
The film revisits themes of brotherhood and human bonds that transcend faith and geographical boundaries. Certainly one to watch out for!
