The recent decree by Allahabad High Court of the hoist of national flag at madrasas across the state of Uttar Pradesh on Independence Day and Republic Day was a much-needed discretion from the law-forum of India. A panel of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice Yashwant Verma passed this order, instructing state government to “issue necessary directions in this regard”.
Arun Gaur, a resident of Alighar, filed a public Interest Litigation requesting court to establish a norm of flag hoisting ceremony at madrassas in the state.
The court inquired the state government to file its counter-affidavit on the PIL and stipulated September 22 as the next hearing date.
