The indiscriminate bombing of innocent civilians has surpassed all limits of brutality and insanity that might had ever perpetuated, in real or in fiction, in any of the Nazi Camps of Hitler. Israel has failed decisively to tame and quiet the bold, brave and intrepid Hamas combatants. A proverb goes – Khisyani billi khmba noche, a cornered cat spikes the pole. Israeli leaders are going hung-ho for an all out war that it could never win.
World opinion is building strongly against Israel. It is also a reflection of intellectual bankruptcy and absolute insensitivity of the US – the self-proclaimed world-policeman and protector of Human Rights, the only nation left that is supporting the brutality of Israel.
However, it seems Israel has now got on the nerves of its greatest benefactor at last. US is losing all patience with the fustian, moon shaped ineptitude of Bibi Netanyahu. Isolated in the polity of nations, the United States has issued a firm condemnation of the shelling of a United Nations school in Gaza that killed 16 Palestinians on Wednesday. The White House has expressed concern that thousands of civilians who had sought protection from the UN were at risk after the shelling of the girls’ elementary school.
“The United States condemns the shelling of a UNRWA school in Gaza, which reportedly killed and injured innocent Palestinians – including children – and UN humanitarian workers,” said Bernadette Meehan, a spokeswoman for the White House’s National Security Council. We are extremely concerned that thousands of internally displaced Palestinians who have been called on by the Israeli military to evacuate their homes are not safe in UN designated shelters in Gaza.”
It was the strongest condemnation from the biggest ammunition, moral and political supporter of Israel till date. However, little evidence is available that Washington has made any great effort with Israel and applied real pressure on it to pull its massive deadly punch.
World is realizing now that Israel is no longer the victim but a culprit, a bully that had cared two hoots about UN Charter of Human Rights. The UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon described the attacks of Israel as “outrageous” and “unjustifiable.” Ban said that “all available evidence points to Israeli artillery as the cause” of the pre-dawn attack, and he pointedly noted that Israeli military authorities had received the coordinates of the school from the United Nations 17 times, including on Tuesday night.
In fact, the US support and Over Ambitious War Mongers of Israel together with the few chefs of brutal West are spoiling the broth. Can you imagine the bitterness that prevails now and would cast its darker clouds upon generation of Palestinians and Jews to come?
As I had already mentioned in other articles on this blog that most of American leaders till sixties were not fond of Israel. It was President Truman who got the US policy tilted in favor of Israel.
US Secretary Kerry’s latest peace proposals are nothing but an attempt to impose on the Palestinians a Pax Israeliana.
Kerry’s main offer to this latest incarnation of the long-moribund “peace process” was a vague $4 billion package of “incentives’ that Palestinians has called hush money. Kerry is merely pressing the Palestinians to accept Israel’s preconditions for negotiations and its version of a two-state solution. It doesn’t include the end to settlement construction, land expropriation, house demolitions (28,000 Palestinian homes demolished since 1967, and counting) or displacement.
It demands the recognition of Israel as a “Jewish” state. It is like the fact on ground today and not what is historically justified Palestinian Land stolen from them in few decades. In nutshell it is something like “what is Jewish is Israeli, what is Arab is Palestinian,” thus eliminating completely any kind of coherent urban entity that might serve Jerusalem as the Palestinians’ capital.
Israel would retain at least six major settlement “blocs,” strategically placed to fragment the West Bank into disconnected and impoverished cantons while isolating what remains of East Jerusalem from the rest of the West Bank. Israeli would control over Palestinian airspace, over their electromagnetic sphere (communications), etc.
So, yeah, this was the US reach of Israel “peace” with the Palestinians.
Interesting to note that Israel government has rejected the peace initiative of US foreign secretary.
The US had never been a peace broker but an advocate of Israeli interests in total disregard of Human Rights, History, Truth and Justice. Israel knows only one Language – the language of Power and that is why Hamas is not giving up. The poor inhabitants of Gaza are presenting the martyrs for their cause and won’t budge under any draconian force.
What the world needs to do today is to compel Israel to give up jingoism and follow the following approach:
1. A just peace and the process leading up to it must conform to human rights, international law and UN resolutions.
2. Regardless of whether there should or should not have been an Israel, two peoples now reside in Palestine-Israel and a just peace must be based on that bi-national reality.
3. A just peace requires an acceptance of the Palestinian refugees’ right of return.
4. A just peace must be economically viable, with all the country’s inhabitants enjoying equal access to the country’s resources and economic institutions.
5. A just peace must be regional in scope – by itself Israel-Palestine is too small a unit to address all the issues at stake in the conflict — and it must address the security concerns of all in the region.
It’s true that governments merely manage conflicts and place their own interests above those of human rights and international law. But it is the responsibility of world community to force the recalcitrant and put it on a tight leash and tell in certainty that rule of Jungle can’t prevail in civilized world.
