The BJP MP Yogi Adityanath’s statement is a chilling reality in West Bengal.

Yogi Adityanath faced some severe backlash recently. The Gorakhpur MP recently claimed in a TV show that communal tensions take place, where the Muslim population is around 10-20 per cent. And that areas with more than 35 per cent muslim population have witnessed an exodus of non-Muslims.

The BJP MP’s statement is a chilling reality in West Bengal.

Writers Building Kolkata – State Administration Building

In Basirhat sub-division of West Bengal, there is a village named Katiahat under Baduria police station. This is just like another village of the state. For the last several decades, Hindus have been organising Durga Puja in Katiahat market. This year, one Muslim built his small shop on a van at the designated place for Durga Puja.

Few days ago the market committee approached him and requested him to move his shop from that place as pandal was to be built at that place. Unfortunately, sometime afterwards the Muslim shop owner died. Local Muslims smelt a ‘conspiracy’ by Hindus in his death and attacked Katiahat market. Shops owned by Hindus were looted and ransacked. RAF was deployed to bring the situation under control. The Katiahat market is still closed even after 15 days of the incident.

You will find several incidents like this happening in West Bengal. The state, which was ruled by Left Front for long thirty-five years, has been in news for random political violence. Hundreds of political activists have died recently.

But interestingly, after a change in the regime in 2011, the state witnessed a major surge in the violence that’s less political and more communal. Some date-wise incidents of May 2014 are here.

Regular media reports claim that there has been sharp increase in incidents like Hindu girls getting kidnapped, Love Jihad, trafficked into sexual slavery and taken as second or third wives of Muslim men. Muslims with political backing are actively found rioting during Hindu festivals, destruction of Temples and desecration of Deities at large scale.

Fortunately, there are a few Hindus who are taking a stand against Muslim atrocities and persecution in the state. Tapan Ghosh is one of them. The firebrand Hindu leader Ghosh, who is active against Muslim aggression in the state, has demanded to ban madrassas and polygamy. He wants Uniform Civil Code to be enforced and to arrest and prosecute known Muslim mafia kingpins and terrorists.

BJP claims to be a party working for the Hindus but recent development in West Bengal politics has showed it showering affection for Muslim community for votes. BJP fought Lok Sabha elections on the issue of illegal infiltration from Bangladesh, but interestingly Tapan Ghosh has different story to tell.

The uncompromising Hindu leader says: “We don’t have any major trouble from illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators, because they are poor. They really don’t have capacity to harm us. But the problem is with the local Muslims. Political parties like Trinamool Congress and Left Front patronise them for their political benefit. And now Bhartiya Janata Party is going the same way.

Tapan Ghosh Are Hindus Facing Pressure In West Bengal?

Ghosh, who has been active in rescuing hundreds of victims of Love Jihad, said that the fastest growing Muslim population has cleared the way for appeasement politics.

His claim seems to be real, as West Bengal’s around 12 Parliament seats in the bordering districts are dominated by the Muslim population. Muslims form 25-30 per cent of the voters in the state and they constitute 42% of the population in 140 of the West Bengal’s 341 developmental blocks. Ruling TMC is well known for appeasing Muslims. It has announced several freebees for the community.

Tapan Ghosh says that the TMC government has been paying more than 30,000 imams in the state Rs. 2500 per month and over 15,000 muezzins Rs. 1500. Burning crores of tax payers’ money mostly collected from Hindus.

Mamata Banerjee Has Changed West Bengal Politics For The Better

Editorial Note: This is being published with caution keeping the tenets of free speech in mind. These are the opinions of the author – we welcome rebuttals and will publish them.

We do feel that most of the current problems in West Bengal are economic – huge migration from Bangladesh, lack of jobs and industry, the mafia-like culture of the politicians. All a result of thirty years of mis-rule by the CPI(M) government and Jyoti Basu (who was described by some as a combination of Nero and Stalin) . Yes Trinamool congress has adopted some of the same methods – but did they have any options in attempting to get CPI(M) out of power? – remember in the beginning it was a lady from a humble home in Kalighat taking on the might of the organized (goonda) machinery of the CPI(M). Trinamool’s achievement is no less than BJP’s success at decimating the incompetent Congress that brought India to the brink of disaster. Some credit does need to be given to Prakash Karat and Sitaram Yechury – who aided in the demise of their own party.

The new mantra ;however, should be development – and we need a right of center(development focused) statesman at the helm of West Bengal – lets hope that day is not far away.
