The Indian National Congress, abbr. INC, also commonly called the Congress is one of the two major political parties in India, the other being the Bharatiya Janata Party. It is one of the largest and oldest democratically operating political parties in the world. The Organisation was founded during the British Colonial times in 1885.
The founders included a prominent member of the Theosophical Society, Allan Octavian Hume, Dadabhai Naoroji and Dinshaw Wacha. In the following decades, the Indian National Congress became a pivotal participant in the Indian Independence Movement, with over 15 million members and over 70 million participants in its struggle against British colonial rule in India.
After independence in 1947, it became the nation’s dominant political party; in the 15 general elections since independence, the Congress has won an outright majority on six occasions, and has led the ruling coalition a further four times, heading the central government for a total of 49 years.
There have been seven Congress Prime Ministers, the first being Jawaharlal Nehru, serving from 1947–64 and the most recent being Manmohan Singh, serving from 2004-14. The party’s social liberal platform is largely considered to be on the centre-left of the Indian political spectrum.
Congress ruled the country with ought any challenge till 1977. In due course of time nationalist leaders were either left for heavenly aboard or side-lined by Mrs Indira Gandhi. Veteran freedom fighter Jai Prakash Narayan started movement against Mrs Gandhi in 1974. In 1975 election of Mrs Gandhi was quashed by Allahabad Court.
Mrs Gandhi hurriedly promulgated Emergency, needless to mention the result thereafter. In 1977 Mrs Gandhi lost election & went out of seen of Indian politics. During 1977 to 1980 Mrs Gandhi was brutally ill-treated. But again in 1980 she bounced back & won the election.
During the long duration of congress rule, party credited with several achievements but at the same time developed serious ills of corruption, feudalism, nepotism, indecisiveness etc. Coalition politics further vitiated the performance of Manamohan Government. These are reasons Modi got full majority In 1914 parliament election.
One of the leaders of BJP raised the slogan Congress Mukta Bharat. Although their contribution to the nation is big zero. Even then they insult nationalist freedom fighters who fought under congress umbrella & also those leaders who created Bangladesh, merged Sikkim in Indian Union, and brought electronic revolution & so on.
Narendra Modi Government is going to complete one year but on home front their result is simply above zero. None of the promise neither fulfilled nor concrete action taken to convince people to fulfil the promise. Starting from price rise to corruption, black money, welfare to the farmers all are in the same place where Manmohan have left.
Congress suffered worst defeat ever in last parliament & subsequently assembly elections. The party become dormant after the result. Now both Rahul & Sonia have bounced back. It is a healthy sign for Indian democracy because strong opposition is inevitable for strong democracy. The farmer interest has again been kept at back burner.
Price rise has lost quite earlier & perhaps it is no more on Modi agenda. Same is the case with corruption. Chief post of Lok pal, CVC, & RTI are vacant since long but no action have taken so far. All these three organisations are the watchdog of corruption. The matter is further going to be vitiated as reported in electronic media that certain amendments in corruption law is proposed which further questioned the intention of Government pertaining to transparency.
This is the high time for Congress to cooperate with the government honestly where they take positive action, but at the same time stand like mount Everest, if it takes action against people. This will save country from ills of ruler & also help them to re-establish.
