Every day as you open the Indian news-papers ,you are bound to read some shocker of a kind ,unheard of elsewhere in the world.A few of the sample shockers :
- Man forced to walk with daughter’s dead body as ambulance leaves them midway
- Indian man carries wife’s dead body for 12 kms
- Dalit forced, torturned to eat human excreta
- Baby dies in UP hospital as staff haggles for Rs 30 bribe
- Wife died on bus; man little girl forced to exit it in rain and forest
Many more such cruel incidents ,not covered here for want of space.
Is this the ‘Incredible India’ we advertise ?
The slogan coined for promotion of Indian tourism is ‘Incredible India !’But no one would dare to think of such ‘incredible’ incidents of cruelty done by people of India ,to their fellow citizens. When you ‘google’ out on such cruel incidents, you find that no other country’s name dares to pop up in the results.Only India and India alone.Even the so-called under-developed African countries with a highly starving undeveloped populace,do not commit such cruelty on their fellow-citizens.Why India stands alone in treating the poor with such incredible cruelty?
The Indian Response!
Whenever the Indian politicians hear this kind of cruel happenings, their typical response is to look away ,as if they did not hear it at all.Our Hon’ble PM is one such example. He did not even tweet for the Odhisa incident (of a man carrying dead body for 12 kms)whereas the Bahrain PM ,in a far away land, was so touched by it ,that he has sent money to the affected person. The second typical response is to ‘order an enquiry into the incident’ as an eye-wash.Why an enquiry, as if such incidents are administrative lapses? Is that an administrative matter or a matter of society’s ethics and conscience? Is that a matter of ‘following an instruction’ or ‘obeying conscience’?
Helping the Poor Is Not A Matter of Administration !
Helping an accident victim or some one in distress is not matter of governance ,as the media makes us believe. They blah blah”Govt Apathy in denying help to ….”Where is the Govt role in a ‘sympathy situation ‘like this? Why should Govt have a direct role in ‘sympathizing’ with a helpless person in distress? A few days back ,a road accident victim in Delhi was even robbed by a person, taking advantage of his helplessness!Where is Govt figuring in here? Sympathy and love for fellow human beings is not a matter of law or government but of the country’s religion, conscience and culture.
Let us understand that the root cause of all such ‘cruel acts’ towards the poor in India ,is not Govt apathy but well connected to our religion, mythology,Caste System and culture. So the next time it occurs ,let us not believe in the media’s diversionary tactics ,diverting our attention from the real reasons into Govt.apathy etc..As long as the diagnosis remains wrong, the disease is bound to prosper.Let us do the right diagnosis and destroy the disease, before it destroys the nation.
