An all rounder, a left arm medium pacer, Faulkner is a gem , who is said to “get things done”. What awaits him this IPL is but a mystery. A gem in the kitty of Rajasthan Royals, his ‘playful’ charm on the field is a treat to the eyes. (As Indians ‘Ye Dil Maange More’)

Rajasthan Royals have always backed little known youngsters in their team and the latest example is that of James Faulkner who has now made it to the Australian side on the back of his excellent performances for the Royals in the IPL. The left arm fast bowler from Australia has now become an integral part of the Rajasthan Royals after the sterling performances that he has put in across 3 seasons and hence it is not a surprise that he has been retained by the Royals once the 2014 auctions came along. In addition to that, his new-found power hitting skills as a lower order batsman also makes him the perfect T20 package for any team.

His role in the Team

James Faulkner is an out-and-out wicket taker who has the ability of taking a cluster of wickets when he is on song and the Rajasthan Royals have been clever enough by providing him with the freedom to operate on his own without restricting his natural attacking instincts in any way whatsoever. The strategy has paid off handsomely for the Royals as Faulkner is now their pace spearhead who has the ability to dismiss any batsman on his day and quite clearly he is a player who can influence the course of the game for his side.

His Value as a Team Player

The Rajasthan Royals have never been a team who fork out huge sums of money for their players but they are far more skilled at going for good players who might lie under the radar and that is what they did when they bought Faulkner for only $100,000 in 2011.

His Performance Graph

As mentioned earlier, James Faulkner is a wicket taking bowler and that was in full show when he delivered his best performance thus far in IPL VI versus the Sunrisers Hyderabad with a devastating spell in which he took 5-16 in an away game. Faulkner took the vital wickets of Dhawan, Parthiv Patel and Darren Sammy among others to make sure that the SRH could only muster a paltry 136. However, the Royals could not win the game as Amit Mishra turned in an inspiring performance to swing the game.

A quick look at his number is a clear indicator that the 2013 season of the IPL was clearly his breakaway season simply because he was given a fair go by the team management and his numbers make outstanding reading. The ability to take a wicket every 14 deliveries in addition to an economy rate of under 7 is surely a deadly combo and hence he is correctly considered as one of the most influential members of the Royals eleven.

Did you know?

Faulkner is regular in the gym and it is rumoured that he cannot get through a day without going through at least one gym session. He has a girlfriend but has managed to keep the details under wraps so far.
