A Lucknowite, She Completed Her Masters in Indian Classical Vocal When She was in her teens

Kanika was born and brought up in Lucknow, a fact which she is really proud of even today. She began her training in classical music under Ganesh Prasad Mishra, a musician from Varansi. She was trained for 12 years. She also participated in classical concerts and her guru accompanied her in all classical concerts that happened across the country. Besides, singing she was also trained in arts and Kathak. She also came to Mumbai and learned music from Anup Jalota.

At the age of 18 she got married and shifted to the UK

When Kanika was just 18, she got married. She became a mother of three kids at a very early age, However, soon she started facing problems in her relationship. Next, she decided to walk out of her marriage. During this time, she wasn’t independent and had to depend totally on her family. This is the time she decided to start something of her own. 37 year old Kanika’s three kids are now aged 12,10 and 7.

She Is Also a Model Who Walks Ramps for International Brands

Besides, being a singer, she is also into modeling. Kanika has walked the ramp for various international designers including Alberta Ferretti. What’s more, she is also the muse for two European designers Moschino and Emilio Pucci which obviously gives her enough attention in Italy and France. She is now planning to spend more time in India now so that with singing she can also pursue her fashion aspirations.

Her Ticket to Bollywood was the song Jugni Ji

In the year 2012, Kanika collaborated with Dr. Zeus for a song Jugni Ji. This was an independent collaboration between Kanika and Zeus. The song was/is available for free download on the internet. After hearing this song only, Meet Brothers and Anjann called her up and gave her an opportunity to sing in Ekta Kapoor‘s Ragini MMS2 starring Sunny Leonne. Rest as we all know is history.

Other Projects which Kanika did in Bollywood

After Baby Doll offers started pouring in from all corners for Kanika. This is the period when she got the offer to sing in Farah Khan’s ‘Happy New. She sang two songs – Lovely and Kamlee. For lovely, she also got the BIG Entertainment Awards for Most Entertaining Singer of the Year. Next, she was also roped in to sing “Chitiyaan Kaaliyaan Ve” in Arjun Rampal starrer Roy. Chill Gaye Naina from N10 was sung by her along with Dippanshu Pandit.
