There is a big, much awaited release happening next weekend: 2 States, the film based on Chetan Bhagat’s book releases next week. However surprisingly, neither the stars nor the filmmakers were on Comedy Nights with Kapil last night. But then didn’t we see Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhat on the show not so long ago? Well then perhaps that’s the reason, that it was Rajat Kapoor from Aap ki Adaalat that we saw on the 12 April 2014 episode of Kapil’s show instead.
Rajat Kapoor on Comedy Nights with Kapil
Rajat Kapoor is well known to Indian audiences as the anchor of the shows Aap Ki Adalat and Janata Ki Adalat – the People’s Court type of shows where celebrities and politicians of all types have faced a grilling at the hands of an inscrutable looking Mr. Sharma. So last night we saw a meeting between two TV personalities, both Mr. Sharmas, albeit very different Sharmas.
Because of the relentless way in which Rajat Sharma is seen to interrogate his guests on his show, we tend to think of him as someone who is largely dour and humourless. However he revealed another side of his persona on the show last night, when he subjected Kapil to some pointed questions and some gentle insults as well. Rajat Sharma’s ribbing and deadpan humour was good fun to watch, but I would have liked him to answer some more tough questions about his habitual ill-treatment of ‘wife’ on the show.
Rajat Sharma had some interesting ‘stats’ on the show: how many times Bua has lied about her age, the number of times Dadi has kissed the male guests on the show and so on. Dadi’s drunken antics and Palak’s characteristic nonsense were also on the show and made for entertaining viewing.
What leant a serious tone to the show was Rajat Sharma narrating his story of growing up in abject poverty. It was an inspiring recounting – a genuine rags-to-riches story.
And meanwhile here is a full previous episode of Comedy with Kapil – this is Part one of the Big B promoting Bhootnath Returns –
