  2. There was the Pink Chaddi Campaign (remember the Consortium of Pub-Going, Loose and Forward Women?) that responded to the actions of the Ram Sene in Mangalore.   3. It all started with a local TV programme that showed young people kissing in a café. Such public displays of affection were deemed ‘obscene’ by cadres of the BJP’s youth wing who proceeded to vandalise the café. In response to the vandalism, an event was organised – a mass public kissing event was scheduled for Sunday, to take place at Marine Drive in Kochi.   4. A TV programme called ‘Njangalkkum Parayanund, a chat show on Mathrubhumi News channel on Friday saw a heated discussion about the planned protest. Rahul and Resmi were a part of the discussion panel. When the host Aparna Kurup dared them to kiss, they went ahead and did so. The right wing reps on the show then proceeded to attack the couple, but were stopped from doing physical harm by security. The idea behind the movement is to express love that is within the bounds of the legal system but which is not held hostage by self appointed upholders of public morality.

  6. However the peaceful protest planned never took place, as the police cracked down on the event and took about 50 people into preventive custody. (Source – India Today) This was a peaceful protest – people were only carrying placards and not lathis but were taken into custody – this was either appeasement of the moral police or supplicating to their unjust demands.
