Salima Begum was Bairam Khan’s wife and Khan-i-Khana Rahim’s foster mother. After Bairam Khan was killed, Akbar married Salima not only to give her shelter, but also to protect her from Bairam Khan’s enemies especially his foster mother Mahamanga.
However, the serial Maharana Pratap which is trying to show the negative side of Akbar and Mughals, have altogether different tale to tell. The serial to our surprise, is not only showing Salima in a bad light, but also giving us the signs of her being a characterless woman. What’s more? Salima is shown getting creepy with both, Bairam Khan as well as Akbar.
Looks like the writer of Maharana Pratap has lost all his senses – We tell you why :
Salima was Akbar’s cousin From Paternal Side
Salima Begum who was married to much older Bairam Khan was Akbar’s cousin from his paternal side. She was actually Humayun’s sister’s daughter – Going by this lineage, she was not just Akbar’s cousin, Humayun’s niece but also Babur’s granddaughter. Therefore, even Ruqaiyah Begum became her cousin sister. I wonder, why Salima in the serial is shown in such a bad avatar. It is not just sad to see Salima Begum in such a avatar but also Bairam Khan who seems to be falling for her lustily.
Humayun Had Betrothed Salima to Bairam Khan
Now there can never be a competition between Bairam Khan and Akbar because of their age difference. In addition, the writers shouldn’t have ignored the fact that Salima was betrothed to Khan by her maternal uncle, the second shehenshah before he died in 1556. And a year later when Salima was 18 and Bairam Khan was in his 50s the two married. This union was made by Humayun, and no way would Akbar take an advantage over his Khan Baaba’s wife. Only a twisted mind would think what the insane writers are showing.
Akbar Respected Both Salima and Bairam Khan
Akbar respected not just Bairam Khan, but also his wife Salima (later Akbar’s second wife). Salima was a learned woman. She was also a poet and a writer like her maternal aunt who penned down Humayun Nama. In addition, though Mahamanga could create a rift in Akbar and Bairam Khan over power and authority, one cannot forget the fact that he respected him greatly. The two wooing the same girl is such a bad wild imagination of the creativity handicap writer.
Salima, A Characterless Woman?
Salima was a Mughal blood, second wife of Akbar and belonged to a royal family right from the start. Royal blood cannot act like a cheap whore wooing almost everybody. In addition, now that we all know that Salima Begum had a dignified status all through her life, this fake character irks us more than anything in the serial.
The writer should have at least used his brain that how come the foster mother of Khan-i-Khana Rahim, a scholar can be characterless and imprudent. After all, she nurtured him right from the start.
Hope the serial corrects this blunder and reveals that this Salima is not that Salima Begum whom Bairam Khan married – I hope the writers spare the people of the past…
