In present times when whole world is burning under fundamentalist rage, it is best to follow the ideals of the Mahatma, who made India independent without firing a single bullet.

Now a days, rarely do we see any person taking some actions which become a guiding light for the generations to come. Someone Like Father of our nation, who is still engraved in our collective memory and whose name is discussed whenever we talk about Indian freedom struggle.

Mahatma, as we all know, was quite unusual in his approach. His farsightedness to see that Non-violence was the best weapon led everyone join the freedom struggle,  from ladies to children, and this is what makes him special. Non-violence was the outcome of his extermination with style of agitation which he had executed during his stay at South Africa where he spent almost 20 years.

mahatma gandhi Mahatma The Guiding Light

Just like any other human being he too had some negative points but all other eclipsed under his larger than life persona and the work he has accomplished for crores of Indians. It was because of him the mighty colonialist used power under extreme circumstances. Some people are discussing today about his role in the partition and assassination by Nathuram Godse.

Godse killed him as he felt that Muslims will remain in India as long as the Mahatma is alive. The reason for which Pakistan has been created will be wasted. Further he opined during the trial that he is saving the Muslims from being killed while on another hand doing for Hindus who are in no away affected by the partition. Needless to say Mahatma never ever agreed to the partition.

From day one he was against the idea to divide India into two parts – One is for Muslims to live and another is for Hindus. He tried Jinnah to a great extent but all his efforts went in vain. He even offered Jinnah to become Prime minister of India assuring that Nehru won’t come in his way. But Jinnah was not interested in taking charge of united India.

For him, an exclusive place was needed for Muslims which he already named as Pakistan. Mahatma tried to quell hatred between Hindus and Muslims by visiting many places where Muslims are in majority. He pacified them and requested Hindus to remain calm. Because of his efforts lakhs of lives were saved from being extinguished under the fire of communism.

By emulating Nathuram Godse, we are discrediting the efforts of Mahatma. In present times when whole world is burning under fundamentalist rage, it is best to follow the ideals of the Mahatma, who made India independent without firing a single bullet.
