  1. Satya Nadella or Nadella Satyanarayana is one of those global Indians that we are proud of. Born in Hyderabad to a father in the IAS, he did his Bachelor of Engineering from the Manipal Institute of Technology before going to the US for further studies and becoming a citizen of that country. Having joined the company 22 years ago, he is currently the CEO of Microsoft, having succeeded Steve Ballmer in February 2014.
  2. Many will be watching keenly as Satya Nadella visits India later this month. According to news reports, the head honcho of Microsoft will be visiting India at the time when his company launches the technical preview of Windows 9. Nadella will be participating in two Nasscom events in Delhi; one focusing on startups and the other on digital.
  3. Nadella will also be participating in a Microsoft programme that is designed to discuss greater female participation in technology and will also be visiting his hometown Hyderabad during his India visit.
  4. The CEO of Microsoft will head an 11 member jury that will choose the winners of the 2014 edition of the ET Awards for corporate excellence. Also on the jury will be KV Kamath, chairman of ICICI, Kumar Mangalam Birla, chairman of the Aditya Birla Group, State Bank of India Chairman Arundhati Bhattacharya, Dilip Shanghvi, MD of Sun Pharma, and Harish Salve, senior advocate.   5. Meanwhile Microsoft and another global giant SAP are slated to bring their cloud and mobile partnership to India. This is geared towards improving cloud interoperability and delivering new mobile and productivity to organisations helping increase efficiency and savings.

In another Microsoft move that will significantly impact India, RIL’s (Reliance Industries Ltd), venture investment management arm has signed a three-year partnership with Microsoft India, set up GenNext Innovation Hubs, in a bid to catalyze the country’s technology startup ecosystem.   7. Other ways in which Microsoft developments could impact business in India is the recent quarterly dividend accouchement by Microsoft Corp. The 11% is half that of last year’s hike, but Chief financial Officer Amy Hood held out the possibility of more shareholder-friendly moves, which could have ramifications for India as well.
  8. Meanwhile business houses and the media will be watching keenly when the prodigal comes visiting later this month; to see what Satya Nadella does here and to know more about the proposed launch of Windows 9. He reportedly said that playing for his school’s cricket team taught him leadership lessons; people will be watching to see which ones.
