Narendra Modi has been catapaulted from the deplorable depths of a 2002  to the aspirant of the august office of PM

This article is not a ‘read’ for die hard Narendra Modi supporters who believe that Modi ji is the most perfect politician Bharat Mata has produced to salvage the present wreckage of this depressed country. It is for those who are realistic enough and not taken away by the meaningless rhetoric, spin and hyperbole of the Gujarat model of development.  The present scenario is an eye opener and proof that make-believe can’t be a smoke screen for long against the facts which have the strange habit to stare back into the eyes.

Narendra Modi Vibrant Growth Model Narendra Modi, Fact & Fiction

These are the best of the times and these are the best times. It is a time that the RSS juggernaut has wrung the last drop of juice from its dangerous fascination of Hindutva ideology. It is the time when nobody has bothered to wipe the tears of Zakia Jafry’s eyes (See Ehsan Jafri’s profile) ; but it is the time when they have catapulted Narendra Modi from the deplorable depths of a 2002  and accused conspirator to the aspirant of the august office of PM. There is an uncanny resemblance between the rise of Nazism of Germany and RSS Hindutva in India. Both got the big money as their backers. While the killers of Naroda Patia and Gulbarga perfected their viciousness craft and successfully sacrificed their field soldiers into the dens of law to save their skins, a new kind of politics has emerged in the body politic of India. You could equate barbarism, suppression of minorities and mutations of minority rights in the name of national integration. They are presenting Narendra Modi, their mascot, as the great administrator, a visionary and tribune of the masses.

However, the latest report of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India states that in Gujarat there are at least 6.13 lakh children in 14 districts who are malnourished or extremely malnourished. The report didn’t cover the rest of 12 districts as the numbers were not available. Malnutrition is a condition which occurs when there is a deficiency of certain vital nutrients in a person’s diet. The deficiency fails to meet the demands of the body leading to effects on the growth, physical health, mood, behavior and other functions of the body. Malnutrition commonly affects children and the elderly. Malnutrition also entails conditions where diet does not contain the right balance of nutrients.

Surprise of surprises, Ahemdabad district has more than 85000 children who are malnourished. To crown the disgrace, Ahmedabad city, the commercial capital of State has 54,975 malnourished children 3,860 are whom extremely malnourished. The tribal districts of Banaskantha in the North and Dahod in central Gujarat on the Madhya Pradesh border are next to Ahmedabad district with 78,421 and 73,384 malnourished children respectively. Junagadh district in the western Saurashtra region has the least, 17,263, children who are malnourished. According to CAG report, every third child of Gujarat was underweight till August 2012.

Look at the states who have shown real progress – The lowest incidence of child malnutrition in India are Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Sikkim, Manipur and Mizoram.. Maharashtra ranks a close sixth. The next four slots again go to northern and northeastern states Uttarakhand, Meghalaya, Jammu & Kashmir and Assam.  Goa, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab find a place on the list.

Today, we have Anganwadi schools in almost all the remote corners of India. Most of the poor Indians know that ‘Anganwadi’ is an institution that provides food and education at primary level. While 75,480 Anganwadi centers are needed in the State of Gujurat, only 52,137 had been sanctioned and only 50,225 were functional. The State trumpeted as ‘Model of Development’ has 1.87 crore people who have been deprived of the benefits of Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS).

An old proverb goes – As I pipe you must dance. So pathetic is the position of senior leaders of BJP that despite their reluctance and total dislike of Narendra Modi and his style of function, they have to sing frequent paeans in praise of Modi. The marginalization of these leaders is an eloquent story of the fall from grace of major players- the spent-out genre. The political cut-throat battle is back to basics in the religious cauldron disguised as Progress. The damage to real secularism is source of genuine joy for RSS and the recent  Muzaffar Nagar conflagration has obfuscated the real issue: What role truly Modi’s Administration played in 2002? How could Narendra Modi be exonerated from the moral responsibility of the macabre dance of death that was played in Gujarat in 2002? Who was the source of inspiration of all those Fake Encounters that followed the riots? Who allowed the Asaram Empire to flourish without hinderence?

RSS under the false garb of a social and cultural organization has played football with religious sentiments and now, with a different tune, a Deobandi Mullah ( the Jamiat-i-Ulama-Hind chief, Maulana Mahmood Madani ) is making a backdoor entry in Modi Darbar and adding to his raga. Will it change anything?
