Full Name: Parineeti Chopra
Date Of Birth: 22 October 1988
Father: Pawan Chopra
Mother: Reena Chopra
Height : 5 feet 7 inches, and reportedly 125 pounds in weight.
Relationship status: Single. Rumoured to be dating director Maneesh Sharma
Siblings: She has two brothers Shivang and Saraj. She is also cousin of ‘Desi girl’ Priyanka Chopra and Barbie Handa, a south Indian movie actress.
Education: She received her early education at the Convent of Jesus and Mary in Ambala Cantonment. After completing school, she moved to London, where she completed a degree in the field of business, and economics from the Manchester Business School.
Early Years: Hailing from a traditional, small town Punjabi family that considered Bollywood a ‘bad industry’, Parineeti was never interested in acting and wanted to pursue her dreams of becoming an investment banker, but the global recession in 2009 changed her plans. She returned from London and was seeking an internship for six months when she happened to visit the Yash Raj Films (YRF) office. While working as a PR Consultant in Maneesh Sharma’s team for YRF’s Band Baaja Baaraat, Parineeti Chopra realized that she wanted to become an actress.
Film career: Though she is still a starlet, she is often touted as the next big thing among Hindi film actresses.
Achievements: Among many, she has won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Actor Debut in 2012
Little Known: She auditioned for the character “Geet” from Jab We Met however she failed the audition and the part went to Kareena Kapoor. Aditya Chopra the head of YRF , who had earlier rejected director Maneesh’s idea of casting a member from his marketing team, accidentally saw the tape. Impressed, Aditya gave his consent for Parineeti to be a part of his upcoming production.
Brief: She is a firebrand actress. Right from her portrayals on screen to her interviews off screen – she appears to be always brimming with enthusiasm. She was given a single shot at acting and “she nailed it completely” as they say. The film with which she was making her debut starred two of hottest stars of Bollywood (also rumoured to be courting at that time) – but Parineeti took the limelight. Almost nullifying the presence of Ranveer and Anushka, the only highlight of the run-of-the-mill film ‘Ladies vs Ricky Bahl’ was the rich and spoiled Delhi brat Dimple Chadda (the role that Parineeti played in the film). Chopra got into the skin of the character so brilliantly that critics and the whole industry had to get up and take notice. Then came Habib Faisal’s Ishaqzaade – for which she had to loose quite a few pounds and keep her weight in check. The one-film old actress jumped straight from playing a second fiddle to being cast as a lead. In this film too, Parineeti Chopra stole the show from debutant Arjun Kapoor. The film that adapted the Romeo-Juliet in the Indian milieu saw Parineeti playing the belligerent girl with quite a bit of panache. Her impact was so strong that the critics did not like the second half of the film just because Chopra’s character Zoya became mellow .
The movie “Shudh Desi Romance” is lined up for release in September and Faisal’s next would also feature this Punjabi beauty. While she stars opposite Sushant Singh Rajput in the former, she would play the love interest of Sidharth Malhotra in the latter. Those who had the fortune of meeting her can vouch that she is one of the most vivacious in the Hindi Film industry. In her own admission Parineeti has stated that she needs to control her tongue as media loves to present her out of context. Interestingly in London she worked part-time for football club Manchester United, as one of the team leaders for the catering service during the matches without having the slightest idea as to what David Beckham looked.
Acting is not her only arsenal. She is a trained classical singer and would like to take it up sometime in the future. She is a big foodie and hates working out. She used to be over weight before taking the plunge into the tinsel town. Currently she is undergoing a drastic weight loss for her upcoming role in Hasee To Phasee. She is also philanthropist who happily turns up for charity shows. One can bet that Parineeti is one actress who is here to stay. Her performances demand sheer alertness. She exudes an attitude of being a girl next door primarily because she does have a filmi lineage to boast of.
