Now that Pavitra Rishta has almost finished 1000 episodes and with the TRPs falling down – the continuity of the show with no concrete plot would make this one-so power packed serial, purely boring.

A fresh new face, a simple blue eyed boy, some sanskari talks blended with heaps of dhishum-dhishum amidst the saas-bahu, along with lots of rona-dhona and timely leaps – that’s how a long running daily soap is made by the Balaji Telefilms.

No wonder, “Pavitra Rishta” the longest running show of Balaji and Zee TV with a record of 7+ has all the above features. A story of strong emotional bond between a mother and a daughter, this is the very first serial of Ekta Kapoor where the family was never seen talking in crores, driving in Mercedes or dealing in multi-billion projects. To our surprise, the protagonists – both male (Manav) and female (Archana)were shown people of the middle class, uneducated with a sole aim of living happily by surpassing all the difficult circumstances coming in their way.

Starting from June 2009 to June 2011, the show was all about love between husband and wife, Manav (Sushant Singh Rajput) and Archana (Ankita Lokhande), their struggles, trust despite all the household as well as worldly difficulties. Besides, we were also bestowed with importance of various other relations like mother-daughter, brother-sister, sister-sister, mother-son, father-son, mother-in-law and son-in-law. Not to forget, the sasubai Savita (Usha Nadkarni) leaving not a single chance to trouble her bechari bahu.

This was the time when Pavitra Rishta’s TRP was soaring high. After all, for the first time ever a middle class Marathi family living in a chawl was the focus of the Hindi serial. The show earned lots of awards in almost all the categories for almost all the Tele Awards. Soon, Manav and Archana became the national heartthrob and also household name in the entire India.

From June to November 2011, the show diverted from the immortal love to love-hate relationship after they became parents of 4 children – Sachin, the son of Manav’s deceased brother, Soham – their own son, Ovi-Teju their twin daughters.

However, post the 18 year leap as well as Sushant Sigh Rajput’s exit in November 2011, everything changed. The poor Manav (Hiten Tejwani) with the help of his boss Mr. Kirloskar became Canada returned businessman with an aamir baap ki beti types girl, Ovi and a happy go lucky girl, Teju, to divorce Archana who stayed alonefor 18 years at her mother’s home along with her adopted orphan girl, Purvi. The show also depicted Kirloskar’s son, Arjun (Ritwik Dhanjani), a foreign returned hot tempered guy Arjun (Ritwik Dhanjani) who hates Purvi (Asha Negi) but eventually falls in love with her.

Meanwhile the story also endowed us with lot of crap in the form of Varsha (Archana’s sister) who kidnaps Soham as she cannot have her own kid and flees to Bihar. They are given shelter by a local goon and so Soham becomes a goon when he is shown a fully grown up guy. Lot of filmy lost and found nautankis was shown in the episodes which focused this aspect.

Soon, the story of Manav Archana became the story of Arjun – Purvi and the mother – daughter relationship was shifted to Archana-Purvi. Their love story earned Pavitra rishta many TRP’s and it became the talk of the town with everyone from young, old to aunties, uncles and kids eager to see them together as husband and wife. However as usual, Ekta didn’t unite them and made a love triangle – Arjun – Purvi – Ovi. Purvi for the sake of her mother sacrificed her love and forced Arjun to marry his childhood friend and her sister, Ovi. Same old Ekta style story, huh? Then another 6 months leap and we saw Bong Dr. Onir (Shakti Arora) entering Purvi’s life as her husband. While the public was liking Puri-Onir Jodi another twist and turn emerged in the plot.

Onir turned out to be even more mahan than Purvi and in the recent episodes it seems that he helped the love birds (Arjun-Purvi) in getting married. Yes, Ovi divorced Arjun way before as she was bored of her husband’s silent love towards Purvi. This marriage plot of Arjun-Purvi was not decided by Ekta Kapoor or her team but by the viewers who signed a petition (10,000 signatures) and sent the same to the Zee TV office urging them to bring the couple back as couples. The TV Czarina was compelled to bring the duo together. This public outrage clearly indicates the show’s popularity among the masses.

Now, the latest buzz is that all the leading characters of the show of this generation – Arjun, Purvi, Ovi and Onir are soon to leave the show as it will go through another 18 year old leap. Ekta’s show always runs no matter how important the person who leaves the show was once. But now that the show has almost finished 1000 episodes and TRPs falling down, the continuity of the show with no concrete plot would make this one-so power packed serial, purely boring.

Pavitra Rishta has always given brilliant actors and performers – From fresh new face to leading face on TV. Whether, it was Sushant Singh Rajput, Ankita Lokhande and now Asha Negi and Ritwik. However, as long as the CV’s continue to endow us with interesting plot, twist and turns, we don’t mind even if Ekta wants to finish 2000 episodes of this long running show. But if it’s only for the sake of quantity – Then, please, we already had enough!
