In one of his recent interviews, Salman Khan said that he felt mass entertainers were soon going to fail at the B.O; that there had been an overdose of the genre and was soon going to lose its charm.
Seems like no one is taking the Dabangg Khan too seriously; with the latest releases like Besharam and Bullett Raja being out and out entertainers. Additionally, the official trailer of Prabhu Deva’s mass entertainer ‘R…Rajkumar’ starring Shahid Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha in pivotal roles also saw the light of the day.
Phata Poster…Nikhla Hero had Shahid essay the character of a Salman Khan fan. Prabhu Dheva’s new movie makes us wonder if this Kapoor lad is really a diehard fan of the Wanted star or not. Shahid Kapoor as R… Rajkumar and Sonakshi Sinha as his ladylove, together remind one of Dabangg. Take Shahid out of Salman Khan’s cop avatar and add a little bit of Prabhu Dheva’ s Rowdy Rathore to his character and you have Rajkumar.
The Trailer and Poster
The trailer gives us a clear idea of what to expect. The film has Prabhu Deva written all over it; with the essence of romance, comedy, action and drama combined together to make an entertaining riot for the audience.
Eros International and NextGen Films launched the first-look trailer with much fanfare only to create a splash, receiving a huge thumps up from the audiences. The trailer of the film also created frenzy on the social media front, trending worldwide at the number 2 position on the very day of its launch.
What’s in a name?
The name of the film has been a part of discussion since a long time; earlier titled as ‘Namak’ it was soon changed to Rambo Rajkumar and now ‘R…Rajkumar.’ According to reports, the makers of the original Rambo series have copyrighted the word Rambo making it unavailable for usage by other filmmakers. As a result the makers then decided on a title change for the film. However, since the film’s title was already known among the audience, the makers have decided on dropping a few letters from the title rechristening it to ‘R… Rajkumar’
The Cast & Crew, and their back stories
To fit the bill of an action hero, Shahid Kapoor has undergone rigorous training and bulked up to play the part. The film sees Shahid moving away from his chocolate boy looks to a more rugged persona. Besides doing hard action sequences, Shahid Kapoor will also be seen donning the female look.
Sonu Sood is playing the antagonist in this film; his second collaboration with the director. Sonakshi Sinha, Prabhu Deva’s blue eyed girl will also be seen romancing Shahid. Going by the trailer of R…Rajkumar, Sonakshi Sinha has gone completely rowdy. In one of her recent interviews, Sonakshi called the film a complete masala entertainer, “Each film is different… this film is a typical Prabhu Deva mass entertainer. There is lot of music and dance and it’s a masala entertainer.” Although not much is known about the storyline, the flavour of the film is believed to be close to Shahid’s role in Vishal Bhardwaj’s Kaminey. Actors like Poonam Jhaver, Asrani and Ashish Vidyarthi would be seen in supporting roles.
Prabhu Deva, an actor, director and choreographer has also worn the hat of screenplay and story writer for this one. The music has been composed by Pritam who has already given hits like Race 2 and Yeh Jawaani Hai Dewaani this year. This also marks his first collaboration with the director who longed to work with the composer;with the music of his previous films turning out to be chart busters, this one hopes to continue the success story. The posters and the trailer seem to ooze a lot of promise; one can expect a heavy dose of action, witty dialogues and a rehash of South Indian action. Also with Prabhu Deva and Shahid Kapoor dancing in the same frame, you can expect some fireworks.
Try and Try..until you succeed?
Shahid’s recent movies like Teri Meri Kahani, Mausam and even Phata Poster…Nikhla Hero fell like nine pins at box office. However, it seems R…Rajkumar promises some unalloyed action which might give Shahid the success he has been waiting for since years. Not to forget that this time around, he has the support of Prabhudeva who is considered the Man with the Midas touch, giving hits to Salman and Akshay in the form of Wanted and Rowdy Rathore.
With 9 flops in the past 4 years, these are testing times for Shahid whereas Sonakshi, who usually has a successful run at the B.O, recently faced her first failure in Quantm 2. Prabhu Deva’s first release of the year, Ramaya Vatsavya, a remake of his own directorial debut failed to set the cash registers running unlike his previous outings. Seems like it’s do or die for all three; but with a promising response to the trailer from the audience and a unanimous appreciation from the critics, this seems like yet another success story in the life of Prabhudeva.
