Joining the nationwide chorus against the release of noted separatist leader Masrat Alam in J&K, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Friday too expressed its displeasure on the controversial decision.
Replying to questions from journalists at the press conference on the opening day of three-day meeting of its highest decision making body the Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sanha (ABPS) at Reshambag Nagpur RSS joint Genreral Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale said “the entire country including RSS is anguished over this act. Even the BJP and Prime Minster had expressed his dissatisfaction. Whatever is happening in Kashmir is not appropriate”.
Stating that this was a new experiment in J & K where a nationalist party has managed to secure for the first time such massive victory in Jammu region. BJP and PDP have agreed upon the “Agenda for Alliance and not Common Minimum Program” he clarified. This is an experiment and some teething problems are bound to confront the coalition, he said adding that the nationalist forces should be given some time to undo the wrongs in that state. Our well wishes are with them, he added.
Welcoming the change at the political level in the nation Hosabale called for sustained and vigorous efforts for individual and social transformation to make India topmost nation in the world.
He said that the change at the political level was welcome. But there was a need to strive for individual and societal transformation also to rid the country of many evils like corruption. However, a beginning was made and the RSS welcomed it, he said.
Replying to a question he said that the RSS has no reason to be unhappy with the performance of Narendra Modi government. The government was working in right direction and people have given them a five year mandate, so wait till then to judge its performance, he added.
Denying the concept of religious minority in India Hosabale firmly stated that there was no minority. “Culturally, DNA-wise and nationally all are Hindus. We use the term Hindu to denote the national identity. Today many of such people who have opted for other religions are associating with RSS”, he explained.
On the issue of admitting women in RSS he said that though women are not directly admitted to RSS shakhas they are joining and associating them with many of the service activities of the RSS. Besides there is separate organization called Rashtra Sevika Samiti for their organization.
Replying to a question on the controversial issue of ‘Ghar Vapasi’ Hosabale clearly stated “RSS does not do such activities”. He said that there would be no discussion on this issue at the ongoing ABPS meeting.
As regards the divergent opinions expressed by Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh or Bharatiya Kisan Sangh on the land acquisition bill provisions, the RSS leader stated that BMS and BKS are independent organizations. They have their right to express their opinion freely and sans fear on the issue. The government should take note of such opinions and make amends accordingly. He however, felt that the bill was not anti-farmers.
