Our dear Prime Minister Narendra Modi had assured the world a few days back in a strong speech on religious tolerance and fundamental rights in India at a function in Delhi. The event was organized by the Syro Malabar Church to honour two saints. Here I’m quoting the salient points of his speech.
My government will ensure that there is complete freedom of faith.
The government will not allow any religious group, belonging to majority or minority to incite hatred against others overtly or covertly.
Everyone has the undeniable right to retain or adopt the religion of his or her choice, without coercion or undue influence.
Unity strengthens us. Division weakens us. I sincerely request all Indians and all of you present here to support me in this huge task.
The world is increasingly witnessing division and hostility on religious lines. This has become a matter of global concern.
Mother India gave birth to many religious and spiritual streams. Some of them have even traveled beyond Indian borders.
The tradition of welcoming, respecting and honouring all faiths is as old as India itself.
As Swami Vivekananda said- We believe not only in universal toleration but we accept all religions as true. This principle of equal respect and treatment for all faiths has been a part of India’s ethos for thousands of years. The ancient Indian plea of mutual respect for all faiths is now beginning to manifest in global discourse.
However, I read and listen to the news headlines of Indian media reporting about the latest onslaught against the reverend Mother by RSS Pramukh Mohan Bhagwat, I feel a lurking doubt that RSS is feeling insecure with the popularity and clout of Prime Minister Modi. The RSS chief, it seems, is allegedly encouraging the RSS cadres of Priests and Politicians to damage the VIKAS agenda of Modi with several spoilers like Ramzadah and HaramZadah, Love Jihad, Ghar Vapsi, Hindu Women to produce 4 – 10 kids etc. The latest howler against Mother Teresa comes directly from Mr. Bhagwat himself.
Mr. Bhagwat stated today while speaking at a function organized by NGO Apna Ghar at village Bajhera in Bharatpur, that Conversion to Christianity was the main objective behind Mother Teresa’s service to the poor. “Mother Teresa’s service would have been good. But it used to have one objective, to convert the person, who was being served, into a Christian,The question is not about conversion but if this (conversion) is done in the name of service, then that service gets devalued. But here (at the NGO Apna Ghar), the objective is purely service of poor and helpless people,” added Bhagwat. He inaugurated ‘Mahila Sadan’ and ‘Sishu Bal Grah’ in the NGO for helpless women and children.
In support of Mr. Bhagwat, Shree M Vaidya, the RSS communication department head, said “In reply Bhagavatji said, ‘let Mother Teresa know her motive for Seva, we do Seva without expecting any returns.’
BJP cadres are appearing to defend the statement of Mohan Bhagwat. MP Meenakshi Lekhi claimed that Mother Teresa had herself in an interview said that her job was to bring people to the fold of Christianity.“All my request to Jyotiraditya Scindhia, Mrs (Sonia) Gandhi and several others is don’t describe people, the way you want to describe them. And kindly read Navin Chawla’s book, where Mother Teresa herself during an interview says that ‘a lot of people confuse me as social worker, I am not a social worker. I am in the service of Jesus and my job is to spread the word of Christianity and bring people to its fold.’
Trinamool Congress spokesman Dere O’Brien condemned Bhagwat’s reported remarks and said Mother Teresa is not about Christianity only but is a world figure loved by everyone. Since I am from Kolkata, so it makes it even more worse to hear what he said.”
The reality is – RSS is the most deceptive outfit of this country and the characteristic feature of this organization with fascist overtones is that different leaders speak with different voices at the same time and different times. They do so to confuse the people and mislead them by never making their true objective clear. While some of the leaders proclaim from the housetops that BJP believes in socialism and secularism, the other are let lose to destroy the secular polity of diversified Indian democracy.
Time to time their leaders contradict each other, But it is sought to mask their real intention – the establishment of the RSS concept of Hindu Rashtra, a theocratic state which is the very anti-thesis of the existing democratic secular polity. The democratic forces have to join hands to unmask this perfidy. The challenge has to be met squarely to defend and uphold the multicultural values and rights of freedom that the people of our country, through generations of struggle, have achieved.
India is a secular state precisely because the predominant majority of Hindus embraced secularism. BJP has never fought the election fon the plank of Transformation of Secular India into a Hindu Rashtra. Indians have rejected, as recently in Delhi and Bebgal, the RSS concepts of a religious theocratic state.
The Holy Book Bhagavad Gita says, “Whatever celestial form a devotee seeks to worship with faith, I stabilise the faith of that particular devotee in that particular form.” (Chapter VII (21). Whatever be the colour of the cow, the milk is always white.
The R.S.S. tries to justify its vandalism by pointing out the religious conversions and destruction of holy places in the hoary past. As far as the past is concerned, how come the present generation be made to atone for some real and more of those unsubstantiated or fabulous and fictitious events? If the process of undoing historical wrongs is unleashed then there are no limits that can be set for going back into the history. Some one has to answer about the atrocities on Dalits, Jainis and Budhists also. Would you punish the coming generations for the ancestor’s crimes? RSS deliberate spreads untruths.
It is the time ripe for Mr. Narendra Modi to tell the nation that country is run from New Delhi and Nagpur is not remote controlling it. RSS must stop the exercise of damaging the authority and administration of Prime Minister.
And here I’m submitting for the readers’ interest some quotes from Mother Teresa herself:
“Keep the joy of loving God in your heart and share this joy with all you meet especially your family. Be holy – let us pray.”
“Like Jesus we belong to the world living not for ourselves but for others. The joy of the Lord is our strength.”
“There is only one God and He is God to all; therefore it is important that everyone is seen as equal before God. I’ve always said we should help a Hindu become a better Hindu, a Muslim become a better Muslim, a Catholic become a better Catholic. We believe our work should be our example to people. We have among us 475 souls – 30 families are Catholics and the rest are all Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs—all different religions. But they all come to our prayers.”
Make us worthy, Lord, to serve those people throughout the world who live and die in poverty and hunger. Give them through our hands, this day, their daily bread, and by our understanding love, give them peace and joy.
Everybody today seems to be in such a terrible rush, anxious for greater developments and greater riches and so on, so that children have very little time for their parents. Parents have very little time for each other, and in the home begins the disruption of peace of the world.
If we really want to love we must learn how to forgive
Indians are wise to see the game played behind the curtain and read between the lines.
