It was a momentous moment for each Indian to see the Indian Tricolour flying high in the sky in National Institute of Technology Srinagar campus. This Indian city is mostly in news for all the wrong reasons. Pakistan sponsored terrorists find a safe haven here, extremists in the valley carry ISIS flag or Pakistani flag and shout slogans to incite violence. This time too few of the handful students in the college campus celebrated India’s loss to West Indies in the cricket match, the purpose was to antagonize those students who love their motherland. Although the nationalist students were miffed and got into an argument with the anti-nationals but instead of indulging in any form of violence they did something remarkable. Hundreds of students carrying Indian flag marched in the college campus and enthusiastically chanted the slogans “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Vande Mataram”. It was a befitting reply to those who speak against India.
It is a well-known fact that to unfurl the Indian flag in Srinagar is a herculean task. But the patriotic students in NIT Srinagar showed remarkable courage and fearlessness making all of us proud. The students in the campus are from different parts of India, belonging to different caste, creed and religion but they all stood united against the anti Indians. They risked their life, their career for their country. Let us not forget that there are sleeper cells of terrorists in the Kashmir valley and many of their sympathizers roam freely in the city.
However the most appalling role was that of the college administration and police personnel. The college administration is guilty of allowing the police to enter the campus. The police did not just use brute force against the students who had not indulged in any sort of unlawful activities but also took away their pride – the Indian flag. I presume that carrying the national flag and chanting “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Vande Mataram” is still not unlawful in India because the left liberals have openly expressed their dislike for the Tricolour and the slogans.
The students who braved all situations and circumstances to fight for India narrated many heart -rending incidents of threat and violence. The anti-nationals have warned the students that they could be killed anytime and girls have been told that they would be raped. Those who follow the ideology of ISIS can resort to any sort of brutality and so all the students need to be provided with ample security. But amongst all this cacophony the most shocking thing was to hear the college administration threatening the students that their career would be spoiled if they protest against the anti-nationals. Hope the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) team which is investigating the issue take stringent action against such staff and faculty members. The students have joined the college to study for their bright future and in such a negative atmosphere it is difficult to focus on studies and so they are demanding that the college be shifted from Srinagar.
It’s not that the anti-nationals were not present in some of the college campuses earlier. It is not that this was the first time that in JNU anti -India slogans were raised and the terrorists were eulogized. But what is new is that today the anti-nationals are not being allowed to go scot free. They are being exposed. The so called secular leaders such as Rahul Gandhi, Arvind Kejriwal, many communist leaders had immediately rushed to JNU to show their solidarity with those students who were accused of indulging in anti-India sloganeering. But none of them found time to express their solidarity with the students of NIT Srinagar. In fact some of the so called secular news channels are not giving much importance to this incident and some are trying to portray that the students were unruly and it was wrong on their part to chant “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”.
What we see today in India is that the forces who had been inimical to India’s interest are now seething with anger because the ease with which they were propagating their ideology is suddenly being challenged and their hidden anti India and anti Hindu agenda is being exposed.
Congress leader Shashi Tharoor while speaking in JNU mentioned the name of Mahatma Gandhi and Bal Gangadhar Tilak while taking the name of freedom fighters. A girl reminded him about Bhagat Singh. And when Shashi Tharoor took the name of Bhagat Singh then the students belonging to leftist ideology laughed. Sensing the mood of the audience Shashi Tharoor immediately said Kanhaiya Kumar is the Bhagat Singh of today and the fawning audience clapped. Will it not have been better that when Shashi Tharoor took the name of Bhagat Singh then everyone would have clapped and when he compared Kanhaiya Kumar with Bhagat Singh then everyone would have laughed? Kanhaiya Kumar is not Bhagat Singh because Bhagat Singh would have never sided with those who chant anti India slogans.
Today’s “Bhagat Singh” are the hundreds of fearless fighters of NIT Srinagar who fearlessly marched with the Tricolour in Srinagar chanting “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Vande Mataram” without caring for their life. Let us salute them. We all Indians should unite against the handful of anti -Indians who in the garb of secularism and freedom of expression indulge in anti- India activities. In NIT, “N” stands for national and so those who are anti-nationals should not be allowed to study in a National college. In fact those who chant anti India slogans should be given a one way ticket to leave this country and settle wherever they want. They need not be nurtured in college campuses. And I think many of us would gladly agree to sponsor the one way ticket for the anti- nationals.
