Sanjay Leela Bhansali started his first Television Opus with SaraswatiChandra after getting inspired by a Gujarati novel written by Govardhanram Tripathi. However, after hardly six month of its launch the show chose not to follow the novel anymore, thanks to the pressure of gaining TRP’s, which eventually even compelled Sanjay Leela Bhansali to distance himself from the show.
After entertaining us from past one year, SaraswatiChandra now has more essence of a daily soap than of a reputed novel. Here, Kumud, SaraswatiChandra’s lover turned wife gets more attention whereas the leading protagonist SaraswatiChandra aka Saras merely acts as a side character.
Forget about giving him more space, dialogues or an important track, the show now choose to ignore him as if he is not at a hero of the show but an ancillary actor. His life now only revolves around Kumud, making me wonder why the makers of the serial do not rename it KumudGatha rather than sticking to SaraswatiChandra.
In addition, in order to support Kumud’s track with lot of meat the writer goes crazy by showing Kumud’s sister Kusum who had hots for Saras, proposing his brother Danny and the two even getting married.
The show has become female oriented daily soap just like we had in past – Kussum, KumKum, Heena, Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi which hardly had anything to focus on the male lead. With so much attention on Kumud all the time, I often wonder, “Who is the hero of Saraswati Chandra – Kumud or Saras?
