Shabbir Ahluwalia is one of the very early TV actors that we still remember we saw during our school/college days. A talented actor, he was always appreciated for the roles he portrayed on TV. Even now, after so many years, he as Abhi the rockstar in Kumkum Bhagya is entertaining the viewers with his unique charm.
Let us look into the biography of this beloved TV Star
Shabbir was born on 10th August 1979 in Mumbai to a Sikh Father and a Catholic Mother. He went to Vile Parle’s St. Xavier’s High School and completed his graduation from a US university – University of Maryland. He has two siblings – Shefali Ahluwalia and Sameer Ahluwalia.
Career: He Started Acting When He Was 20
Now a senior actor, Shabir started his career in 1999 when he was approached to play the role of Bela’s brother in Hip Hip Hurray. Later, he played a negative role as Aniket Rakesh Khanna in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. He was also seen in Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki as Soumil Dixit. However, he got famous from the serial Kahiin Toh Hoga where he essayed the role of a spoilt Rishi Garewal. The show had Aamna Shariff and Rajeev Khandelwal in lead roles.
Next, Shabbir essayed the role of Vansh Malhotra in Kkavyanjali where Anita Hassanandani and Ejaz Khan was the main protagonist and then finally he got a leading role in Balaji’s popular serial Kayamath as Milind Mishra, along with Jay Bhanushali and Panchi Bora. Besides, he was also seen in Kasuati Zindagii Kay and Laagi Tujhse Lagan.
Currently, he is playing the role of Abhi, the rockstar in Balaji’s yet another serial Kumkum Bhagya. Although, Shabbir has always played a negative character (who later turns positive), here in Kumkum Bhagya, he is playing a good boy who loves his family unconditionally. For a change he is not the negative lead or a spoilt brat, but a positive young modern guy with great family values.
Shabbir made his Bollywood debut with Ekta Kapoor’s film ShootOut at Lokhandwala. Here he played the role of RC, one of the 5 gangsters who were killed in the famous ShootOut of Lokhandwala. A year later in 2008, he also did another film Mission Istanbul where he played an important role of Khalil Nazir. Again, it was a negative role.
Shabbir has done lot of reality shows in his career. He hosted the first two seasons of Nach Baliye, and even participated in Khatron Ke Khiladi 3 which was hosted by Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra. He was the winner of the season. Even Ritwik Bhattacharya, Dino Morea and Milind Soman had participated in the same season.
Love Life – Kanchi Kaul
Shabbir Ahluwalia was in a relationship with Kanchi Kaul, a TV actress famous for her role “Shraddha Shergil” in Star Plus’ Meri Bhabhi. The two never worked together in TV serials though. The couple married in November 2011 and became proud parents of a baby boy on 25 July 2014.
Shabbir Ahluwalia also started his own production house recently along with his friends. It is known as Flying Turtles.
