The upcoming Bollywood movie Udta Punjab is in news for a lot of things. From Censor board, to the political chaos and now an open social media war. While the movie is literally fighting out with the Censor Board to get a go-ahead without cuts so that the film releases on June 17, here’s something interesting that Shahid Kapoor has to tell about the film.
Shahid Kapoor Plays the Role of a Rockstar in Udta Punjab
Even before the teaser released, Shahid Kapoor’s rockstar avatar in Udta Punjab became the talk of the town. When Shahid shared his first look as Tommy Singh on his Instagram account, almost everybody applauded his look and his dedication to look like a druggist in the film. Yes, he looks like the typical notorious rockstar who is unconditionally loved by the masses.
Many of us even felt that Sasha’s look has been inspired from our real life rockstar Yo Yo Honey Singh. Moreover, since both of them share the same surname, more and more people speculated the same. When Shahid Kapoor was grilled by BollywoodLife about the same, this is what the actor had to say –
Shahid said, “Obviously he’s a big star in Punjab and that’s the only parallel that you can draw with Yo Yo Honey Singh.” The actor however clarified at many instances that his character was completely fictitious and added, “The character that I play is a rockstar who’s a cocaine addict so I wouldn’t want to draw any parallels. And if you see the look of the character and how he is, I don’t think he looks like Honey Singh.”
When the online portal probed the actor further and said how people felt that the styling of Tommy kind of reminded people of Yo Yo, he said,
“Those are things that are generic right? I mean when you are a Punjabi rockstar that’s the vibe that you have. I don’t think it’s towards any individual. I think that’s the general space and it is a blingy space. He’s a bit of an exhibitionist, he’s loud, he’s in your face, he’s aggressive, he’s over confident.”
Yo Yo Honey Singh Is Shahid Kapoor’s Favorite Rapper
Further, when Sasha was asked about his favorite rappers, he took the name of Yo Yo HONEY Singh along with Eminem and Tupac. However, he declined being inspired by Yo Yo for the role of Tommy Singh in Udta Punjab. Yes, seems like there is no connection between the two.
