Shahrukh Khan underwent knee surgery in Breach Candy hospital yesterday after suffering swellings and pain due to repeated injuries over the years. The Badshah of Bollywood has been discharged and is resting at his residence. However, this is not the first time that SRK is in the news for medical reasons. In fact, King Khan is one of those actors who have gone under the knife several times – eight times to be precise.
Here we share the timeline of Shahrukh Khan’s injury right from his initial days in Bollywood:
When He Fractured His 3 Ribs and Left Ankle
The first major injury happened when Shah Rukh Khan was shooting along with Anupam Kher for Yash Chopra’s Darr in the early 1990s at Mumbai’s Film City. In this particular scene Shah Rukh Khan was expected to jump on Anupam Kher who was relaxing on a sofa. However, the moment Shah Rukh jumped on the sofa, Mr. Kher lifted his leg accidentally. This mistake fractured his three ribs, hurting his chest very badly.
In another movie he twisted his left ankle in a fight sequence where he was supposed to jump from First Floor.
Even the Right Toe
In 1993, Shah Rukh was shooting for an action sequence where he accidentally damaged his right toe. Unfortunately, when he was shooting for the film “My Name Is Khan” the injury worsened. If that was less, he damaged the same toe all over again during the shoot of the film. Yes, being a superstar is not that easy, it definitely comes with a heavy price.
During the Filming of Koyla, he damaged his Left Knee
Do you remember the famous running sequence in Rakesh Roshan’s film Koyla where we see a red dupatta tied around SRK’s knee? While, we all thought it was for style, the truth is Shahrukh Khan was using the dupatta to ease his pain from a knee injury. He had used Madhuri Dixit’s dupatta to continue the shoot in spite of suffering badly. The reason why he continued shooting was that the set was based in Arunachal Pradesh and halting any scene or sequence meant heavy losses to the Film producer. This incident took place in 1997.
Back Injury In 2001
While shooting for the item song Ishq Kamina in Boney Kapoor’s Film Shakti, Shah Rukh suffered back injury. This happened in the year 2001. However, the actor got treated after two years in April 2003. He was operated in a UK Hospital.
The Shoulder Injury
In the year 2007, SRK injured his left shoulder while shooting for an action scene for his film Dulha Mil Gaya. Unfortunately, his supraspinatus (one of the rotator muscles) was damaged. This was the very first time that SRK damaged his left shoulder. A year later in 2008, Shah Rukh Khan injured the same shoulder once again while shooting for ‘My Name Is Khan’. Being a professional, he didn’t treat the injury immediately but waited for the shooting to get over.
The Minimal Invasive Surgery for his Left Knee
The left knee which SRK injured while shooting for Koyla worsened when the actor was shooting for his in house production film Ra-One. This happened mainly because Shah Rukh Khan had opted for physiotherapy instead of surgery. However, post Ra-One, he went for the minimal invasive surgery to ease his pain.
The Shoulder Injury and Surgery
In the year 2013, Shah Rukh Khan underwent a shoulder surgery after he was hurt badly while shooting for Rohit Shetty’s Chennai Express. Though he treated his injury in London, he got it operated in a Mumbai hospital.
Accident on the Set of Happy New Year
Last year while shooting for a dance sequence in Farah Khan’s Happy New Year, a door crashed on Shahrukh Khan and he sustained minor injuries. He was bleeding post the accident. However, he was immediately rushed to the Nanavati hospital where he got all the necessary medical help.
And Finally the Arthroscopic Surgery of his Left Knee yesterday
As mentioned above, Shahrukh Khan’s left knee is troubling him from decades now. He finally underwent an arthoscopic surgery of his left knee after suffering from repeated swellings and pain. The operation was conducted successfully. It seems that due to regular injury on the same knee his Patellar Tendon was torn.
