It is believed that involved grandparents can recognize their grandchildren’s abilities more than the parents because parents tend to underestimate and downplay their children’s talents and intelligence rather than bring it to the attention of teachers or others. Here are signs that will tell you what to look out for…
They Look With a Curious Mind
Brighter kids look intently for longer periods of time at their surroundings than other infants of their age. Intelligent babies and toddlers tend to have more eye contact and seem to understand what people are talking about much sooner than their peers.
They Throw Tantrums!
Bright toddlers can get upset when they’re stopped from doing something they’re trying to do. “Gifted toddlers may have temper tantrums because they felt humiliated by being thwarted, misunderstood, or stopped from doing what they feel really ready to do and totally justified in expecting to be allowed to do it!” says Dr. Ruf.
They Ask Valid Yet Difficult Questions
These kids will ask you questions that you might not have answers to. All of a sudden, you’ll realize why you didn’t think of this all your life. Impressed with his question, you’ll know your grandchild is indeed a genius.
Early to Speak/Walk/Read/Write
Is your grandbaby speaking grammatically correct English or his/her mother tongue? Is the baby even learning your neighbor’s language and speaking all three languages comfortably?
Does your grandchild knows where she had placed her toy? Or does she bring your spectacles and give it only to you, and not your spouse? Also, does the baby notice your hair cut or the change of nail polish?
Sense of Humor
Does your grandchild laughs at a joke which his peers wouldn’t even grasp? Or wink at you?
They Have a Problem Solving Skill
While, most of the child of their age might cry to get things they want, these witty kids usually solve the hurdle to get through their final aim. For instance, if you keep things on the higher shelf, this kid would use some or the other prop as his/her device to stand up and get the thing from the shelf.
Their Physical Development Is Faster than Others
Is your grandbaby jumping, crawling, catching a ball or trying to get things which is beyond their reach? If they are fast and furious, and much active then their peers, they are certainly above the normal ones!
They Do Not Sleep as Early as the Kids of their Age
Most parents might be worried why their kiddo is not sleeping as other kids of his/her age – chances are his brain is so occupied that he is not able to sleep.
