She was Spotted by the Famous TV Anchor Tabassum at the age of 4
Sunidhi Chauhan was born on August 14th in 1983. In 1987, when she was only 4 years old, she started singing in a Delhi temple. Later, she even participated in competitions, events and local gatherings. In one such gatherings famous TV host Tabassum spotted her. It was after this, that Tabassumji made her sing live in her show Tabassum Hit Parade. Tabassumji then requested Sunidhi’s family to shift from New Delhi to Mumbai, and this is when she introduced little Sunidhi to Kalyanji and Anandji. This is how Sunidhi became the lead singer of Kalyanji-Anandji’s Little Wonder’s Troupe.
In 1996, she won India’s First Singing Talent Show Judged by India’s Prominent Singers and Musicians
At the age of 13, Sunidhi along with Pradip Somasundaram (Thrissur Kerala) won the Singing Talent competition which was judged by eminent singer and musicians – Manna Dey, Bhupen Hazarika, Pandit Jasraj, and Lata Mangeshwar. Annu Kapoor was the host of the show who also became one of the supporters and mentor of Sunidhi Chauhan. Lata Mangeshwar till date remains Sunidhi’s fan. In fact, she considers Sunidhi as the Numero Uno singer of this generation. She even went to record the album Aira Ghaira Nathu Khaira with HMV post winning the title.
The Same Year (1996), she bagged her first Bollywood project as a Playback Singer
Remember the famous song “Ladki Deewani dekho” from Sunil Shetty starrer Shastra? Well, the music director Aadesh Srivastava chose Sunidhi to sing this song. She was only 13 then. Next, she got many songs to sing in various films including Salman Khan’s Veergati, and other films such as Dahek, Raja Ki Aayegi Baarat, Samar and Bade Dilwala.
The Album that Changed Her Life Forever was Ram Gopal Varma’s Mast
Three years later in 1999, Sunidhi Chauhan through Sonu Nigam met Sandeep Chowta, the music director for Ram Gopal Varma’s film “Mast”. In 15 days, she was signed for three songs in the film. All the three sings not only rocked the chartbusters but also changed Sunidhi’s career forever. Out of which Ruki Ruki si Zindagi went on to become a major hit. Sunidhi back then was only 16.
She Became a Runaway Bride when she married Bobby Khan at the age of 18
Sunidhi against the wish of her family married Bobby Khan whom she met during the filming of the album Pehla Nasha. She was only 18 at then. Her family didn’t approve Sunidhi’s deceision at all and even disowned her for taking such a drastic step. Though Sunidhi initially said she was happy staying with Bobby, the couple within a year got separated and headed for a divorce. During the entire phase she stayed at her mentor Annu Kapoor’s house. He and his wife took care of her. After, staying single for almost a decade she married her childhood friend and music composer Hitesh Sonik in 2012.

She is a recipient of many awards including the prestigious Dadsaheb Phalke Award which she received in 2014. She collaborated with many singers including Enrique Iglesias with whom she made her International Debut.
