In Sony TV’s Suryaputra Karn, the serial shows how the young Karna meets a young Duryodhana in Hastinapur when Dushashana is angered by Karna’s prowess and abilities. Unlike the real Mahabharat, here the Duryodhana is not happy to see a capable boy. In fact, he is jealous of his abilities. He challenges Karna and the two battle it out. Though Karna wins the challenge, Duryodhana asks his soldiers to arrest Suryaputr Karn and all his friends.
Karna and Duryondhana Were Great Friends – When They Met They had Mutual Respect
According to Mahabharat, Karna and Duryodhana met for the first time during the archery tournament where Karna wanted to participate in the tournament but was declined to contest it. Seeing his confidence, poise and strength Duryodhana was impressed. No wonder, Karna was an open challenge to his cousin Arjun whom he hated the most as he was Dronacharya’s favorite pupil.
Karna was not only a tough answer to Arjun but also a great asset for Duryodhana. Although people usually say Duryodhana befriended Karna for his ulterior motives, one cannot ignore the amount of trust, faith and belief he had in Karna. He did love Karna and even had immense respect for him. In fact, Duryodhana was the one who never called him a Sutputra or made fun of his humble background.
However, here Duryodhana not only insults Karna but also calls him sutputra – A thing which not only disrespects both Suryaputra Karna and Duryodhana, but also their friendship. The serial might later show how they turn friends from foe. However showing them as foe is factually incorrect.
It was Duryodhana who Turned Karna into Angraj Karna
Karna and Duryodhana never met each other at an early age as shown in the serial and when the duo came face to face of each other, Duryodhana not only befriended Karna but also made him the king of Anga. Duryodhana was the one who turned Karna into a king from a sutputra, he was the one who showered him with all the respect when everyone made fun of his humble belongings. Even Dronacharya insulted him in spite of being a guru.
However, in spite of all these positives between the two, the show in the name of being different showed such a fictional aspect which is not only wrong but also indigestible. How can we see hatred for Karna in the eyes of Duryodhana? How can we see animosity in the eyes of Karna for Duryodhana?
Karna and Duryodhana – A Classic Friendship
Karna and Duryodhana loved each other as friends. They had mutual admiration for each other. It is interesting to note that Duryodhana didn’t cry when his brothers died in the Kurukshetra war but couldn’t stop crying when Karna breathe his last.
We would rather see a positive side of Karna and Duryodhana’s friendship. It would be rather logical to show Duryodhana in good light as we all know the serial is all about Suryaputra Karna and his life.
