This is about the lucrative aspect of being a victim in Bollywood. A controversy always helps in selling !
Kamal Hassan (The Victim)
We all know of Kamal Hassan – a renowned and versatile actor from Tamil Nadu (as the popular actress Asin Thottumkal) particularly noted for his role in Telugu Film Nayagan. Just recently Kamal Hassan’s Indian spy thriller ‘Vishwaroopam’, which saw a lot of controversy after certain groups slammed it for its offensive comment. The fact that merely two people can get together, form a religious group and stop the government in its track by claiming that religious sentiments are hurt (the victims) is a totally different topic – this post is not about that – my facetious remark aside, I am also not making a judgement on the legitimacy of the claims by these groups.
Controversy Lead To Profitability?
The post is to point out that the movie grossed over Rs 120 crore in over four days – would this have happened if the controversy were absent. I just hope for the groups that were opposing the films release negotiated a ‘cut’ / a per-cent of profits for allowing the film to be released. Else they have only been made fools of – and in this case these groups would be the ultimate victim’s and not Kamal Hassan (who is laughing his way to his bank).
The Cast Of VishwaRoopam
Pooja Kumar is an Indian-American actress, producer, model and television hostess. She was crowned Miss India USA and has been a VJ for Channel V, among others
Andrea Jeremiah is an almost 6 feet tall Indian, music composer, keyboard player, playback singer, voice actress, a film and theater actress from Chennai, who works mainly in the South Indian film industry.
I have not seen the movie – so apologies for an ill-informed post , but the relative success and the absence of Bollywood A-listers – has anyone heard of Pooja Kumar before ? probably implies that the plot was well laid out.
