Now that China has adopted a two- child norm for its people after a three decade after a three decade one child policy what does it forebode for India?
Several reasons have been been given in the Chinese media about relenting on this issue. One said that even though the growth of 400 billion children had been prevented since 1979 it also led to a situation where the population of elderly had become a mater of concern.
Whatever the merits of the communist form of government the output of the so-called senior citizens anywhere will be lesser than that of the youth.
Another reason being touted by the official Chinese newspapers is that the new policy is dictated more by consumerism than by the human rights of a couple to have more than one child. It has been estimated that the new policy will lead to a consumption of at least $75 billion in the long term.
But what has been left unsaid is that all economic predictions were projecting a picture that in the not-so-distant future India would beat China as the most powerful economy of the world.
And the advantage India had over its Asian rival was its youthful human resource. Our leaders both from the UPA and NDA had been propagating at all national and international forums that India was the youngest country in the world as its youth between the age of 18 and 35 constituted over 50 % of its population.
Whether the potential investing countries noticed this or not is not known but China certainly took note of this and hence it revised its three decade old policy.
I was wondering why there was no reaction to this from the Ashok Singhals, the Shiv Sena and the Sakshi maharajas who had been provoking Hindus to produce five children after the last census report was out.
The Shiv Sena had actually offered a prize of Rs.2 lakh to a family that produced five children between 2010 and 2015.
Now that China is offering a direct competition what would be the target set by these great seers of modern India for Hindu women to bear- 6,7,8 or 10 children.
Actually these leaders should be the real Margdarshaks of the BJP because they are innovative and leaders with a vision for the future of India.
The official Margdarshaks, the Advanis and Murli Manohar Joshis have done nothing to justify the exalted status given to them by the party and they should return their titles!
