The television industry saw a number of ups and downs this week; we saw Star Plus regain its position and Zee TV slipping back to the third position. Our countdown of the Top 5 shows for the week of November 11th to November 17th too saw a number of changes, with some new shows entering the Top 5 and some surprising exits.
This week in the Top 5 Shows of the Week saw a new entry in the 5th position: Star Verdict, a weekly chat and review show on Star Plus replaced Dance India Dance: Dance ka Tashan. This week in Star Verdict, we saw the Ramleela Jodi i.e. Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh promoting their upcoming movie. We also watched Anupama Chopra give her take on this week’s releases.
About the show
In Star Verdict, host Anupama Chopra interviews some of the biggest names of the Hindi film industry and gives you her insight while she reviews the latest films.
Seeing the success of The Front Row by Anupama Chopra on Star World, Star TV decided to launch a similar show to attract the Hindi speaking masses of the country. With this intent, Star Verdict was launched. Similar to The Front Row, Star Verdict makes a mark on the entertainment quotient as well. Anupama Chopra creates a cheerful and engaging banter with the guests which make for a number of light hearted moments. It’s entertaining to watch the candid confessions of the stars, their nervous moments and their thoughts on the current trends of Bollywood. Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone both gave us some very entertaining moments talking about their experience working on Ramleela, how big a taskmaster is Sanjay Leela Bhansali and their personal equation with each other. With rumours of the two dating each other, there were some sparks flying between the two. Love was definitely in the air and so was the entertainment quotient this week.
I would like to give the show 3.5 out of 5 in the entertainment quotient.
The concept of the show is similar to many of the review and chat based shows on television: Zoom with Omar, the Bollywood Review show by Komal Nahata and What’s this Friday on UTV Stars to name a few. The show manages to create a separate identity of its own, thanks its ability to come up with innovative and trending topics which the Bollywood celebs discuss every week. This week we saw the Ramleela jodi discussing the revival of love stories in Bollywood. Unlike other shows where celebs come to promote their films, Star Verdict is an opportunity for the audiences to catch their favourite celebs speaking their minds about topics which we as an Aam Janta discuss about Bollywood; whether it is the Young Brigade of Bollyood, or the 100 Crore club.
Besides, Anupama Chopra gave her reviews on the movies released this week; known for her unbiased and simple yet effective reviews, it was nice to know what is good and what is not for me as a movie goer this weekend. Also, her trivia on some of the finest movies of Bollywood was quite entertaining which also helps you win some cool goodies.
I will like to give the show 4 out of 5 in the content quotient.
As a host, Anupama Chopra was at her usual best. She tried to get as much masala as she could from the two stars. In the rest of the show she was really good; having watched her in the Front Row it’s nice to see her change from English to Hindi so easily without any glitch. She seems to have a good grasp on the language with a clear and sound dialect which is really important for a host. Her impromptu reactions during the show are fun to watch. Being a part of the Bollywood industry for so long, wife of Bollywood Filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra, she manages her role as a TV host with equal panache and grace.
I would like to give her 4.25 out of 5 in the performance quotient.
Value for Time
Airing every Saturday at 7:30 pm, Star Verdict deserves 30 minutes of your weekend. With a chance to see your favourite celebs at their animated best and to know the best films of the week, Star Verdict is a perfect value for time show.
