While passing through the TV room of our hostel, seeing the hypnotized faces of the people glued to it, i recalled my childhood days as TV maniac. how i used to spend hours together with it, how fiercely my brother and i fought for remote and how TV became my addiction. I got out of that intense obsession because of a simple poem by Roald Dahl ” The Television“.
I want everyone, especially parents to read that poem and grasp what the author wants to say. Unknowingly what children watch on that idiot box is shaping their mentality. I strongly believe that movies and other entertainment stuff on TV is playing spoil sport in ruining a child’s life. Most of the teenagers (esp girls) today are obsessed with daily soaps.
Watching such unnecessary shows is filling their brains with junk and diverting their minds to subjects beyond their maturity level. I dont understand who sees sense in telecasting such non- sense. I can surely say if channels stop telecasting serials, atleast one person in each house can do something productive daily. Are the problems in their families not enough that people want to rot their head with stories of every other house.
Daily soaps in India have only one meaning “saas bahu serials”. What is the media trying to teach people through such debris? To create a fantasized world for young couples? To train mothers- in- law how to control their bahus? To propagate criminal ideas to kill someone or obtain someones property?
