JagMandir Palace in Udaipur, Rajasthan – A palace also built on Lake Pichola and famous for celebrity weddings including the birthday bash of KP Singh (DLF) with Shakira as the lead entertainer. Wedding include that of Raveena Tandon, and many others. Also famous as a refuge for Shah Jahan during his campaign against Jehangir. While it is not often mentioned – the Jag Mandir palace was also included in the James Bond film octopussy (the elephants).
Inside there is a large domed building that was specifically built for ShahJahan (Price Khurram). It is an interesting feeling stepping inside such historical buildings and making a note of their importance – realizing this is where Shah Jahan lived for a while. Their exists a small Ganesh temple which is far more recent (and still a hundred or two hundred years old). The last few images are from the boat as we leave the Jag Mahal to return to the Lake Palace.
Best Time To Visit
The peak season for the hotels (and tourism in India / Rajasthan in general) is winter. But the Lake Palace especially was built as a Summer palace. We were there early April and the weather was actually excellent – I would recommend it. The most divine moments were our dinners at the rooftop of the Lake Palace with full view of the lake and the city palace. It is an unparalleled experience.
