  1. The World Hindu Congress (WHC) – referred to as the “instrument for organizing the Global Hindu Community” will is organizing an event to be held from 21 to 23 November 2014 at The Ashok Hotel in New Delhi.
  2. This is a forum that helps to provide a “common platform to global Hindu population of the world to interconnect with each other.” The projected benefits of this are “economic, social, cultural, religious, spiritual and financial.”
  3. The organization’s tag line is “Where there is dharma there is victory” and the programs planned for the WHC 2014 Conferences include events for the youth, for women, for education, the economy, media and more; all ways to “propel Hindu interests globally”. (Source World Hindu Congress)

In connection with the scheduled event, International Working President of the VHP Pravin Togadia was in Mumbai and was quoted as making his typically incendiary statements.
  7. Predictably, the bogey of controversial subjects has been raised by the VHP leader in the run up to the Hindu conference. He spoke of Love Jihad and how the issue of religious conversion, which according to him is “illegal according to the constitution” needs to be checked. He also spoke of the Ram Temple, which he says is still very much on the VHP’s agenda. (Source – DNA India)
  8. The proposed objective of the Conference; that of taking the “movement for Hindu solidarity to the next level” may be a worthy and desirable one but it would be a pity if this objective were high jacked by those with extremist agendas. This “platform for the less affluent Hindus to connect with those who are in positions of global leadership” also spells out a worthy aim of the scheduled conference, so long as those furthering the cause of religious chauvinism are not permitted to spew their own brand of vituperation at the occasion.
