Ruqaiya Sultan Begum, the only love of Akbar, his childhood friend and his companion throughout his life – If only she could witness the way the CVs of Jodha Akbar on Zee TV are portraying her. I’m sure if she could sense even slight of what is happening, she would rise from her graveyard and haunt them endlessly till they would show her real self.
Frankly speaking, the CVs of the show seem to be very much in hurry to show the false love story between Jodha and Akbar. And so in the process the baali ka bakra becomes Ruqaiya Begum Sultan because until they show her negative, they cannot proceed with the fiction love story between Jodha and Akbar. The funny part is that people now believe whatever the show is portraying, that is, they think Ruqaiya Sultan Begum was indeed an insecure, jealous, selfish, heartless, haughty and very insensitive woman. This is obviously injustice to the real Ruqaiya Sultan Begum of the Timurid dynasty who was not only not at all what is described all. In addition, was very dear and precious to the Mughal Emperor Akbar.
Ruqaiya Sultan Begum had no competition when it came to Akbar’s love because she was the only woman Akbar ever loved. In the serial, we often hear that Jalal has no heart, yes, in reality too he was the same but then his heart did do the usual lubb and dub – However, not for Jodha but for his love Ruqaiya. Akbar not only loved Ruqaiya but also respected her a lot as the two complemented each other very well. While, Akbar did not know how to read and write, Ruqaiya was well educated and had a great understanding of the Mughal tehzib. She also advised Akbar on the matters of court.
In the early middle age, Akbar even regretted having more than one wife other than Ruqaiya Begum. He expressed regret on marrying any other Begum than Ruqaiya, such was his love for Ruqaiya. Even though Ruqaiya Begum remained childless all throughout the life, Akbar always considered her more due to his unconditional affection towards her. Ruqaiya Begum later fostered Akbar’s grandson and Jahangir’s son Prince Khurram (Later Shah Jahan).
Being a Mughal princess herself, the only daughter of Hindal Mirza always took prudence over all the other Begum both in Akbar as well as Jahangir’s court. So, it rather comes as a surprise that she will ever stoop down to low levels like spreading rumors and talking sans tehzib with others.
The Ruqaiya Begum shown in the serial is not at all the 16th century Begum of Akbar, it is rather some 21st century vamp which is inspired by Ekta Kapoor’s other serial..Oops there I take the name of Ekta Kapoor who no more is a part of Jodha Akbar after lot of drama by the Rajput community. Just imagine, what if there were descendants of Mughal Empire? Well, they would certainly take out their shamshir and search for the CVs for portraying Ruqaiya Sultan Begum in such a bad light.
Nur Jahan, too knew the importance of Ruqaiya Sultan Begum and so right till she was alive she was in good terms with her and no sooner she died, all the responsibilities of Ruqaiya directly went into the hands of Nur Jahan..Rest is history which we all are very well aware of…
